Not sure if it would be the right Godfrey as his father was a coal mine manager and his middle name was Ivor but he could well have " been sent to the coal face " to learn what life is really like. Sadly he died in France in 1917. It's given me something to think about. As you say Jennie looks very promising so will go with that first. It is so frustrating as I have all the previous census records but can't finish it off. Still that's half the fun and don't you feel good when you finally have a win ! Jenny, I can send you a copy of his British Army Short Service Form from 1914 that lists his occupation as a fireman and has his signature on it. Do you already have that? The letter I and J are very easily mixed up in handwriting on the census. Often the middle name wasn't given or not given in full, so I wouldn't write him off.
