Hello Lloyd & Listers, Could someone elaborate on this a bit more. What is "vz" ? The examples given were from both the 1500's and the 1700's. When did this practice change to include the husbands surname only? Dear Carla It is an abbreviation of the Latin 'videlicet' and translates as 'namely' - and specific detail will follow a statement - for example 'my children' - 'namely Tom, Dick and Harry'.
