I think the directions to catch a goose before you start writing would be to pluck some feathers for a quill pen. I read somewhere that abbreviations possibly came about in order to save time and ink. Saving ink, translates into saving money. Jim

For sure! And the time it takes to take a penknife to your quill and reshape it, and the years when you had to make your own ink!
