    3. Try this website http://www.visionofbritain.org.uk There are various routes through the website and lots of information about places. One way to get to the information you are looking for is to put in the name of the place you are interested in and it will give you a description. Then near the bottom of the page below 'XXXX through time' and click on 'this administrative unit' and it will give alternative names and spellings and loads of other information about boundary changes etc. A wealth of information.
