    3. Dear Listers, Those of you who enjoy exploring the 'Welsh Churches and Chapels Collection' on my website may like to know that at 8:30 pm this evening, the BBC4 television channel is showing the third programme in a series entitled 'Churches: How to Read Them'. The series is presented by Richard Taylor, author of 'How to Read a Church - A Guide to Symbols and Meanings in Churches and Cathedrals' (Rider, London, 2003; ISBN 1-8441-3053-3). This evening's episode is entitled: "How churches were designed to give medieval people a way to 'escape' death". The first two episodes are available to view (probably UK only) via the BBC website: Episode 1 - "How churches were originally intended to protect the altar and the rite of the Eucharist" Episode 2 - "How and why parish churches played a crucial role in the everyday life of the Middle Ages" See http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00tnp8f Incidentally, I'm currently working on the next subject to be added to the 'Welsh Churches and Chapels Collection': St David's Church, Llanddew, Breconshire and the nearby Bishop Gower's Well and Bishop's Palace, a favourite residence of Geraldus Cambrensis (Gerald of Wales) in the 12th Century. The 'Welsh Churches and Chapels Collection' is at http://www.jlb2005.plus.com/walespic/churches/ Kind regards, John -------------------- John Ball, Brecon, Mid-Wales, UK E-mail: [email protected] John's Homepage: http://www.jlb2005.plus.com/ Images of Wales: http://www.jlb2005.plus.com/walespic/ Welsh Family History Archive: http://www.jlb2005.plus.com/wales/ GENUKI Breconshire Maintainer: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/BRE/ Brecknock FH Group Webmaster: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~wlsbfhs/ Joint Administrator - Powys (& BRE/MGY/RAD) RootsWeb mailing lists
