    2. My guess is that these people signed with a mark (often a cross) and not a proper signature. Very common in old documents, when only a small proportion of the population could write. The downloadable PDF from he URL below shows many of the participants in marriages with '+' sign after their names. It seems this can apply to bride, room, or the witnesses. I haven't seen this before, and it doesn't seem to be defined nywhere in Thomas Wood's book. Is it shorthand for 'of this parish'? ecause, if so, how do I make sense of an entry like this on page 229: "1803 May 27th John Evans + of Clifford and Sarah Burgwyn +, it., John Michael, Ann Evans +" where it looks as though John Evans is from the parish of Clifford? egards, John Evans [By the way - your transcription does seem to up on FreeREG now!] ---- Original Message ----- Date: Fri, 14 Jan 2011 12:15:06 -0700 From: "Howard" <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [POWYS] Roll call ~ FARR To: <[email protected]> Message-ID: <[email protected]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" For all Glasbury seekers.
