Hello Alison, It began with the marriage of John Farr and Mary Davies on June2 1843 at the Church of Llandewicwm.John,a labourer lived at Rhydwillim.Mary a spinster (carpenter`s daughter) lived at Croswin .witnesses John Evans and Margaret Jones. The 1841 Census for Llangammarch shows that Mary already had a son ,William Davies. Gwen Davies 70,pauper,Mary Davies 25,pauper,William2,pauper.(How heartbreaking is that?). As Gwen is 70 she could be Mary`s mother or grandmother. William`s birth certificate shows he was born on the 15June 1839 at Pantyronen,Treflys,Llangammarch.The birth was registered on 25June by Gwen Davies occupier, Pantyronnen.There is no father named. When Gwenllian died on 26Dec 1844 at Newhouse aged 77 her death certificate shows her to be the widow of Rees Davies ,carpenter.Mary gave the name of her father as Rees Davies on her marriage certificate. Alan Powell found four possible candidates for the marriage. Rees Davies ,widower= Gwen Williams1/4/1808 at Llangammarch. Rees Davies=Gwen Williams of Llandwicwm29/12/1803at Merthyr Cynog Rees Davies=Gwen williams of the hamlet of Lysdinam.,Llanafon fawr ,on 25/5/1792at Llanavan Fechan Rees Davies =Gwen Jones2/5/1789at Llandefaelog Fach. I wrote to Alan again to ask him to do some follow up for me but didn`t hear from him so think he may have given up researching.I hoped to find children from these marriages ,then if Mary showed up I would know I had the right marriage.Also one entry might show the correct Rees if carpenter was entered. So no further forward than that but maybe someone will recognises one of these couples and I can eliminate them. I would also like to trace William Davies.He is on the 1861 in Merthyr but lost after that.
