I'd also like to know if anyone can recommend a family tree program that has a good report/register writing capability. ========== Dear Carrol, A 'top-down' descendant chart usually starts with one individual or one married couple, so to start with two couples might require you to create two separate charts with a family history program, convert them into image files, and then merge the images in a graphics program. But to get some ideas on difficult charting problems, you might try exploring the Progeny Genealogy website at http://tinyurl.com/agj7yrt I understand the company has a good reputation for answering queries, so drop them a line and explain what you want to do. PAF is a fairly basic family history program, its main strong point being that it is free. I think most of the well known commercial family history programs can produce good reports, which can be edited afterwards if necessary. I use Family Historian as my preferred program, but also sometimes use Family Tree Maker, Generations (rather clunky), and PAF. Other possibilities include Legacy, The Master Genealogist, and so on. If you put any of these into a Google search, you should find full details about them. Many are available as time-limited downloads, so you can try them out before purchasing. Carol and John - Legacy is on-line free. You can buy an upgrade if you like it. One way of preparing a top-down descendant chart with two couples at the top might be to pretend one in the couple is a sibling of another in the other couple, and that they have a common set of parents. Don't print out the parents though. I don't know if that would work, but you could give it a try.
