    3. Hi Denise I don't know about researching Barnardo's records, but Martin's and Peggy's advice below seems sound to me for the first port of call. You need to be very careful that you have indeed found the correct record in cases such as this. Having said the above, in tandem with the Barnardo's research, you also may wish to check out one of the two following birth records: BIRTHS: QUARTER DISTRICT VOL. PAGE Mar 1942 Robert Jones Merioneth South 11b 940 (mother: Williams) Mar 1943 Robert T. Williams Merioneth South 11b 505 (mother: Pugh) During the quarters December 1941 - December 1942 no Robert Williams is listed in the FreeBMD index as having been born and registered in the Dolgelly district. However, the first entry above, where the father's surname was 'Jones', but mother's maiden name was 'Williams', may possibly be of interest? Does your Robert Williams's birthday fall in the period late December 1941 - 31st March 1942? The full record should provide the correct date of birth, if there is a chance of it being the actual one. Perhaps the register office concerned might check out the date for you first, before charging for a full certificate? During the whole year in question, there were only four other males born in the Dolgelly district with the Christian name 'Robert', but none with a surname similar to 'Williams'. I've also assumed that Robert has no middle name, which, if correct, should help with locating the record in the register office. There were quite a lot of births in the Dolgelly district around this time where the father's surname was Jones and mother's maiden name was Williams. On the other hand, if Robert has a middle name beginning with 'T', then the second entry above in March 1943 may be of interest - perhaps the birth was registered late, if Robert's birthday is in, eg., October? If not on both counts, then the second entry can probably be discounted. Possible parents for the second birth are Griffith R. Williams and Jane L. Pugh. The Williams/Pugh couple living in the Merioneth South registration district appear to have had three sons and two daughters during the period March 1938 - September 1945. Dolgelly births were registered in the Merioneth South district from 1935-74. I understand that the Dolgelly records are now held by: Gwynedd Register Office, Unit 2, Eryri Business Park, Penrhyndeudraeth, LL48 6LD Tel: 01766 771000 website: http://www.gwynedd.gov.uk/gwy_doc.asp?cat=6726&doc=24310&language=1&p=1&c=1 A bit of a long shot - but perhaps this may help a little?
