Hello Patricia I have various documents referring to my ancestor Sarah Mills (sister to your husband's Mary Mills) ~ I would be very interested to hear more about Mary, all I have is her marriage to David Morgan in 1900. Sarah Mills was born in 1858 at Upper Nanthir, Llannano Father John Mills mother Ann Mills nee Hughes. Hugh Mills (Sarah's brother) was born in 1847 at Upper House, Nantmel. Hugh Mills marriage address given as Upper Nanthir, Davidswell. Hugh Mills Will address was given as Upper Nant Hir, Llannano As you said Plentiful Gates and Upper Nanthir are next to each other in the Censuses ~ perhaps they were amalgamated? I have a photograph with the farm in the background and it doesn't look in very good repair. I'm sorry I don't have an old map of the area. Please let me know if I can help any further. Your message makes it clear why I could not. My husband is descended from John and Ann Mills' daughter Mary. She was quite a gal! And took a lot of finding. I look forward to hearing from you. In the meantime, I'll attach an account of my search for Plentiful Gates. I am busy today and tomorrow morning but if you can bear with me I may be able to help you. My dear friend Margaret Harvey (RIP) descended from their son Hugh and Sarah I have a photograph of them ~ how are you connected please? Hugh and his wife Sarah were still there in 1916. However, I cannot locate its exact position. The 1881 census lists the farms in the area: Hugh is living at Upper Nanthir and his father John at Plentiful Gates. They are listed next to one another. Was it at Upper Nanthir? I have maps of the area including old ones. Fford-Las, Nanthir and Upper Nanthir are there but no Plentiful Gates. It can't simply have disappeared, or can it? I know that many buildings were demolished in the middle years of the C20. I have visited the area but could not locate it. Please can anyone help?
