    3. There is a slate headstone, with the following inscription. 'What man is he that liveth and shall not see death?'/In memory of ANN/Wife of JOHN WILLIAMS of Rhydfaes/Who died Jan 11 1833/aged 48./Also of MARY, his wife/who died Oct 21 1853/aged 49/ Also of JOHN WILLIAMS/aforesaid, died Dec 21 1871/aged 88./'Thou takest away their breath,/ they die/and return to their dust' There is no indication of anyone else buried in that grave, other than those mentioned above. Hope that this helps. I have some Williams relatives buried in Llandinam church yard. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Roy Davies" <roydavies@gmail.com> To: powys@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, 26 September, 2012 9:21:21 PM Subject: [POWYS] John Williams buried in Llandinam churchyard on 26 December 1871 I am interested in John Williams, a farmer who died in Llandinam in Montgomeryshire on 21 December 1871 at the age of about 88. He was buried in the Llandinam Parish Church burial ground on 26 December 1871, according to the parish records. I don't know if his grave has a headstone or not but if anyone on this list has access to a list of memorial inscriptions for Llandinam (or easy access to the churchyard) I would be very interested in knowing if there was one and what it says on it, in particular who is buried with him. If there is a memorial inscription and it is in Welsh there is no need to translate it as I have a reasonable knowledge of the language. 3. William, Many thanks for your prompt and informative response. The information is very useful. I thought that John Williams had married twice (unless I had confused two different men with that name) and your message confirms that. It is very likely that John Williams and his first wife, Ann, were my 3 x great grandparents. Do you know if they were related to any of your Williams people in Llandinam? If so we might be distantly related! My 2 x great grandmother was Ann Williams who married Thomas Price in Llandinam on 16 July 1832. The witnesses were John Williams and Maurice Davies. The second mentioned seems to have been a witness at most marriages in the parish and therefore was probably not related to either the groom or bride but John Williams was quite likely a close relative. The couple subsequently moved to Dowlais, part of Merthyr Tydfil, but according to various censuses Anne Price (formerly Williams) was born in Llandinam in about 1808. There is only one Anne Williams in the parish record who fits the bill and she was the daughter of John Williams and Anne Hughes and she was christened on 20 March 1808. She was actually born and christened before her parents marriage but John Williams was acknowleged as the father in the christening record and the parents got married in Llandinam on 6 August 1809. John Williams and Anne Hughes seem to have 4 children. After Anne they had: John Williams, christened 6 August 1809 in the Parish Church, Llandinam. Thomas Williams, christened 23 February 1814 in Bethel Calvinistic Methodist Church, Llandinam. William Williams, christened 4 April 1816 Bethel Calvinistic Methodist Church, Llandinam. Elizabeth Williams, christened 21 September 1818 Bethel Calvinistic Methodist Church, Llandinam. Unfortunately neither John Williams nor his first wife Anne seem to have left a will (and neither did John's second wife Mary). I had hoped they would have left one which would have mentioned my 2 x great grandmother Anne Price to prove beyond any doubt that she was their daughter. However, since they did not leave wills I suppose I will just have to try and eliminate any other possible candidates. If there was another Anne Williams born in Llandinam in about 1808 she was not christened in the parish church (or the non-conformist ones included in FindMyPast) nor was anyone of that name with the right age buried in Llandinam before my Anne Williams married Thomas Price. As a final check I suppose I could try and find all the Ann/Annes of the right age whose birth place is given as "Llandinam" in the 1851 census and if they are married or widowed try and find out if their maiden name was Williams. Since I am about 90% convinced that the daughter of John Williams and Anne Hughes called Anne is the same woman as the one with that name who married Thomas Price, I would be welcome any information from anyone who is also (or has already) researched that couple. Thanks again William for the information about the head stone.
