    3. I wonder if anyone might be able to help me with a brickwall I've come up against.   My gggrandfather was baptised as Sion David at Ynysgau chapel, Merthyr Tydfil in 1813, the son of Llywelyn David (born 1786) and his wife Elizabeth nee Jones (born 1791). They lived at Beacons Farm near Bedlinog, just south of Merthyr Tydfil. In the 1841 census the family are listed as having the surname of Davies with my ggrandfather named as John, the eldest son.   In 1842 John got married  to Jane Watson at Gelligaer parish church, but on the marriage certificate he gave his surname, and also that of his father, as Williams. Jane was the youngest daughter of George Watson, born 1774 and Gwenllian William, born 1779. The young couple then farmed at Bedlinog Isha, Gelligaer where their daughter Gwenllian was born in 1843 then at Blaencallan, Llanddetti, Brecon and later (at the time of the 1851 census) at Bodwigiad farm, Penderyn, Brecon.   Llewelyn, John's father is listed as Llewelyn David living at Beacons farm, Merthyr Tydfil in the 1851 census.   My ggrandfather George was born in 1852 at Bodwigiad farm, Penderyn but on the birth certificate his name is given as George Davies, son of John Davies & Jane Davies formerly Watson. So the family have reverted to the surname of Davies.   After this date John and Jane and children moved back to take over Beacons farm. John died before 1861 as did his father Llewelyn leaving Jane (nee Watson) as the farmer. She died in 1881.    Llewelyn Davies and his wife Elizabeth are buried at Vaynor church, though when I went to look for their graves I couldn't find them. I did however find the graves of their son Llewelyn and his wife Margaret who died in 1887 and 1890 respectively. I think there must be some family connection with Vaynor , perhaps Llewelyn and/or his wife Elizabeth came from this area at the turn of the 18th/19th century.   I would be very grateful for any suggestions or help from anyone.   Margaret
