Hello All, The Glanusk edition of A History of the County of Brecknock by Theophilus Jones is now on Ancestry. Unfortunately they have just digitised the 1141 pages of the four volumes in a straight run of 1141 images without even an indication of volume breaks. To help get my bearings I made the tables below which may be of use to others. Volume 1: images 1- 236 with the index at image 229 Volume 2: images 237 - 517 with the index at image 509 Volume 3: images 518-768 with index at image 755 Volume 4: images 769 - 1141 with the index at image 1111 As the illustration plates have no page numbers the match between page numbers and the image numbers gradually disappears in each volume so it becomes more of a estimating game. The sections about particular parishes start at the following images: Vol 2: Brecon (St John and St Mary) 290 Llanddew 410 Garthbrengy 417 Llandefailog Fach 428 Merthyr Cynog 439 Battle 446 Aberyscir 451 Trallong 455 Llanvihangel Nant Bran 457 Llandeilo'r Fan 459 Ty'r Abad 460 Llanwrtyd 463 Llanddewi Abergwessin 467 Llanfihangel Abergwessin 469 Llanwrthwl 473 Llanafan Fawr 475 Llanvihangel Bryn Pabuan 480 Llanganten 484 Llanavan Vechan 487 Llanlleonvel 488 Llangamarch 492 Llanynis 500 Maesmynis 502 Vol 3: Builth 521 Llanddewi'r Cwm 531 Llangynog 531 Alltmawr 532 Gwenddwr 532 Crickadarn 534 Llyswen 537 Llandefalle 543 Bronllys 552 Talgarth 558 Llanfihangel Tal y Llyn 577 Cathedine 581 Llangorse 585 Llanelieu 593 Glasbury 596 Hay 618 Llanigon 627 Grwyne Fawr 631 Grwyne Fechan 631 Partrishow 633 Llanbedr 635 Crickhowell 639 Llangenny 670 Llanelly 675 Brynmawr 883 Llangattock 685 Llanfihangel Cwmdu 696 Llangynidr 716 Llandetty 721 Capel Taff Fechan 731 Beaufort 732 Llansantfread 734 Llangasty Tal y Llyn 747 Vol 4: Llanfihangel Tre'r Graig 777 Llan y Wern 780 Llanvillo 782 Talachddu 789 Llanhamlach 791 Llanfigan 801 Llanfrynach 813 Cantref 828 Vainer/Faenor 832 Penderin 843 Ystradfellte 854 Ystradgynlais 862 Llywel 878 Devynock 896 Cray 923 Llanspyddyd 928 St David (Llanfaes) 951 The volumes are a real treasure trove for Breconshire researchers. Mary's analysis will be extremely useful, even for those lucky listers who own their own copy of Theophilus Jones's seminal work. Copies of the four volumes of the Glanusk Edition, published between 1909 and 1930, are still available second hand, but they are very expensive. The work was also published in facsimile on CD in 2001 by Archive CD Books (www.archivecdbooks.ie), and is still in their catalogue; current price £27.18 including VAT. Regardless of whether you own an original, have the CD version, or plan to access the work via Ancestry, I'm sure you'll find that having a printout of Mary's summary to hand will be of great value. I've just printed off my own copy for future reference.
