    1. [POWYS] MGY Burial of Robert HUMPHREYS near Welshpool
    2. Mike YEGWART
    3. Hi Folks, I'm struggling to find the burial of my 3 x gt grandfather. In the 1841 Robert (Robt) HUMPHREYS was a 'farmer' in Meifod. By 1851 his wife, Mary, nee JONES, was a widow and housekeeping in Stredalfedan, Welshpool. (The 1851 census for Stredalfedan &Tydyn Prydd was less than 3 pages.) Robert and Mary's last son, Joseph was baptised in the Parish of Welshpool on the 14th November 1847, so Robert was probably alive for his conception. And there was no indication on the Baptism that Robert has already died. I have found a second quarter death in 1849 on FreeBMD for a Robert HUMPHREYS in the District of Llanfyllin, aka Welshpool. Using the newly released FindMyPast, parish records I cant find a burial. (Robert doesn't appear to have been baptised either, although his 1838 marriage to Mary gives his father as John, and is described as full age, making a birth before 1817.) Has anyone any ideas, please? Regards Mike

    3. Good hunting, Clive Hilary -----Original Message----- From: powys-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:powys-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Clive Gardener Sent: 27 June 2012 23:08 To: powys@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [POWYS] Good News! - BRE, MGY and RAD parish records on FindMyPast website Hi Hilary Thanks for your reply. In the end I simply tried the name, plus the known year, leaving the county and place fields blank, but there were still NO results for the first two quoted examples! I've built up quite a list of BMD enquiries concerning Llangattock residents, so the visit to the Powys County Archives Office should be quite productive. I don't know what it is, but putting the name and year into a search form and then clicking on the button 'Search' doesn't quite have the same resonance as running your eye down a list of names in a register (on paper or film) and then coming to a halt at the actual name of the person you are looking for, written in ink, in the original handwriting . . . Many thanks for the information about the three separate parishes in Brecon. 3. Hello, Off the "top of my head" I think there are two Llangattock - one in Brecon and one in Monmouthshire. My Thomas Williams was in Llangattock, Monmouthshire in 1840 when he married Amelia Williams. She came from Cwmyoy. 3. Hi Hilary Thanks for your reply. 1. [POWYS] POWYS: Breconshire Local & Family History Society
    2. Hillary Williams
    3. Hello everyone, I thought that you might like to be reminded of the existence of our Breconshire Local & Family History Society (BLFHS), established just over one year ago. Currently we have just over 100 members. We meet monthly, usually at Brecon Library, at 2pm on the first Wednesday in the month. Our next meeting, on Wednesday, 4th July, will take the form of a talk by Len Ley on "Farming in the 1780s". His talk is based on contemporary farming diaries from the Abercrave area of Breconshire. Everyone is welcome to attend: there is a £1 entry fee for non-members. As well as local members, our membership comes from many other parts of the British Isles as well as overseas. Our main medium of communication is our website, at www.blfhs.co.uk, which helps even distant members to feel part of the Society. The website's members' section offers sound files of most of our monthly talks, and in some cases slide shows of visual presentations, enabling even distantly located members to enjoy our monthly talks. But this is just a taste of what is on offer to our members. For example, our volunteers are busily transcribing nonconformist chapel records, which we then make available to all members' via our website. A visit to our website, at www.blfhs.co.uk, will give non-members a good idea of what is available. The membership fee is £8, renewable on 1st January. A membership form is available to download from the website. All the very best, Hilary Williams (Chairperson, BLFHS)

As well as links to the pdfs on this page, in the lower half of the page you will see a blue link for "Search the Welsh Parish Records Now" When you go into that link, you put in the person's details, but note that there are 3 tabs on that page, for separate baptism, marriage and burial searches. So you have to search each event individually. One thing I found was that you have to put the County and Parish spellings as seen in the Welsh Parish Coverage pdf on the Find my Past site http://www.findmypast.co.uk/content/welsh-collection/parish-registers . From here you can go into the separate pdf pages to show the Parishes coverage for Baptisms, Marriages and Burials. and see how the Parish names are spelt as well as seeing the dates covered. So, for example, in Brecknockshire (not Breconshire), Crickadarn is spelt as Crucadarn. Crickadarn spelling brought up nothing for me, but Crucadarn had the full coverage for my surname of interest You may well have worked this out already, but just in case....... As regards your ancestor, remember that Brecon was divided into 3 Parishes, Brecon, St David, Brecon St John (and Brecon St John the Evangelist) and Brecon, St Mary. 3. Hi Clive and All, Have not subscribed yet and having read your message, thought I would do a quick trial search. 3. Hi John Has Tom scanned his PC? If he does a search for "House call" from Trend Micro. It is a web virus scanner and is independent of anything. It is great I have used many times on my PC and others and it's free. Because it is web based it doesn't install or save on your PC (only a small start program) and you always get the latest version. ------------------- Free Online Virus Scan - Antivirus Software - /HouseCall/ <http://housecall.trendmicro.com/au/index.html> *housecall*.trendmicro.com/au/index.html - United States /HouseCall/ is a free virus scanner offered by Trend Micro, which checks whether a computer has been infected by viruses, spyware, or other malware. /HouseCall/ *... ---------------------- *Good Luck Tom. Let me know if it finds something.
