Have you looked at the Family Search site for the batch numbers? For Llandadarn Fawr, Radnor: FHL BRITISH Film [ 104469 Item 4 ], Baptisms, burials 1701-1709, 1714-1818, 1823-1849, 1864-1865 Marriages 1701-1709, 1714-1818, 1823-1837 You can order the film from your local Family History Center. It might take a few months to get it, but it’s a start. On FamilySearch.org there is a Thomas Price baptised 02 May 1806 at Llanbadarn Fawr. It does not list the parents, but you might be able to find the original baptismal record showing his parents. There are, however, none listed for a Thomas Price of Llanbadarn Fynydd. Could he have been born at one place and baptised at another? Lynne in Tucson -----Original Message----- From: Roy Davies Sent: Tuesday, November 13, 2012 2:28 PM To: powys@rootsweb.com Subject: [POWYS] Thomas Price/Pryce, born in Llanbadarn, Radnorshire ca. 1808 I am trying to find the parents of Thomas Price or Pryce who was born in Radnorshire in about 1808. According to the 1881 census, when he was living in Dowlais, Merthyr Tydfil, he was born in "Llanbadarn." Unfortunately there are three "Llanbadarns" in Radnorshire; Llanbadarn Fawr, Llanbadarn Garreg and Llanbadarn Fynydd. There is someone of the right age who was christening in Llanbadarn Fawr, but I doubt if he is the right one. He is probably the Thomas Price whose birthplace is given specifically as "Llanbadarn Fawr" in various censuses. The parish records for Llanbadarn Garreg do not list a Thomas Price of the right age. Unfortunately the parish records for Llanbadarn Fynydd have not been scanned and put on FindmyPast. Does anyone on this list have easy access to the Christening records for Llanbadarn Fynydd? If so I would be grateful if you could check if there are any Thomas Prices christened in the period 1804-1812. Hi, I also use PAF, but I have been doing my Family Trees in Excel. It takes a little time, depending on how large you make it, but it's a great way to see the tree. I like to do one for each of the lines I am following .. some of them get quite large, but Excel handles it well and it can be printed out. You can also add photos, etc, and do color for each family line. If you would like a small example of how it looks, email off list and I can send you one! But to get some ideas on difficult charting problems, you might try exploring the Progeny Genealogy website at http://tinyurl.com/agj7yrt I understand the company has a good reputation for answering queries, so drop them a line and explain what you want to do. PAF is a fairly basic family history program, its main strong point being that it is free. I think most of the well known commercial family history programs can produce good reports, which can be edited afterwards if necessary. I use Family Historian as my preferred program, but also sometimes use Family Tree Maker, Generations (rather clunky), and PAF. Other possibilities include Legacy, The Master Genealogist, and so on. If you put any of these into a Google search, you should find full details about them. Many are available as time-limited downloads, so you can try them out before purchasing. Carol and John - Legacy is on-line free. You can buy an upgrade if you like it. One way of preparing a top-down descendant chart with two couples at the top might be to pretend one in the couple is a sibling of another in the other couple, and that they have a common set of parents. Don't print out the parents though. I don't know if that would work, but you could give it a try. Lesley, I am very interested in taking up your very kind offer to assist out-of-towners. I live in Australia. I have only been to Powys, Wales, once and, unfortunately it is highly unlikely that I will ever be able to return. My 3x great grandfather, Pryce Morris, lived in Montgomeryshire prior to his transportation to Australia as a convict in 1812. Although I have quite a deal of information so far, I would like to get some more specific information. I would be happy to cover any costs incurred and would appreciate it if you would contact me off list. Regards, Ray Morris Rutherford NSW Australia rtm@tpg.com.au

John WIlliams, Llandefalle Hi Gareth, I think I can help you with this a little since I believe your John was the brother of Hannah Williams who married Rees Phillips who is in my line. There were 4 children in the family I believe, being John, Hannah, Margaret and Ann and their parents were John WIlliams and Ann (Unknown) In the early 1800's they lived at Brechfa Uchaf in the parish of LLandefalle and belonged to Maesyberllan Chapel, Trawscoed. I have been lucky enough to obtain a copy of the transcription of some of the early records for Maesyberllan and it is from these that I can find the baptisms of the 4 children with the names of the parents, and a notation of where they were living at the time of the baptisms. The only difficulty is that the actual registration of the baptism records was much later than the birth dates and were probably reconstructed in the mid 1830's from the records existing at the time. At the moment I have been unable to find any further information regarding the parents John and Ann, but have not looked at the Llandefalle registers for them to date. I have quite a bit of information regarding Hannah and her family if you are interested and would be happy to correspond off list if you wish. KInd Regards Tricia Heseltine >
Hi, I´m trying to find out anything more about my great great grandfather born around 1808. Have found him on Censuses 1841-1871 and believe he died around 1875. Was married to Sarah (maiden name not known) and had children called Thomas, Sarah (died young I think), Anne, John, Rees (my great grandfather) and Mary Ann. The family moved to Llanthetty (Llanddetti) after Thomas´s birth. Does anyone have any links to this family and their forebears please? Gareth Jenkins

Hi Denise I don't know about researching Barnardo's records, but Martin's and Peggy's advice below seems sound to me for the first port of call. You need to be very careful that you have indeed found the correct record in cases such as this. Having said the above, in tandem with the Barnardo's research, you also may wish to check out one of the two following birth records: BIRTHS: QUARTER DISTRICT VOL. PAGE Mar 1942 Robert Jones Merioneth South 11b 940 (mother: Williams) Mar 1943 Robert T. Williams Merioneth South 11b 505 (mother: Pugh) During the quarters December 1941 - December 1942 no Robert Williams is listed in the FreeBMD index as having been born and registered in the Dolgelly district. However, the first entry above, where the father's surname was 'Jones', but mother's maiden name was 'Williams', may possibly be of interest? Does your Robert Williams's birthday fall in the period late December 1941 - 31st March 1942? The full record should provide the correct date of birth, if there is a chance of it being the actual one. Perhaps the register office concerned might check out the date for you first, before charging for a full certificate? During the whole year in question, there were only four other males born in the Dolgelly district with the Christian name 'Robert', but none with a surname similar to 'Williams'. I've also assumed that Robert has no middle name, which, if correct, should help with locating the record in the register office. There were quite a lot of births in the Dolgelly district around this time where the father's surname was Jones and mother's maiden name was Williams. On the other hand, if Robert has a middle name beginning with 'T', then the second entry above in March 1943 may be of interest - perhaps the birth was registered late, if Robert's birthday is in, eg., October? If not on both counts, then the second entry can probably be discounted. Possible parents for the second birth are Griffith R. Williams and Jane L. Pugh. The Williams/Pugh couple living in the Merioneth South registration district appear to have had three sons and two daughters during the period March 1938 - September 1945. Dolgelly births were registered in the Merioneth South district from 1935-74. I understand that the Dolgelly records are now held by: Gwynedd Register Office, Unit 2, Eryri Business Park, Penrhyndeudraeth, LL48 6LD Tel: 01766 771000 website: http://www.gwynedd.gov.uk/gwy_doc.asp?cat=6726&doc=24310&language=1&p=1&c=1 A bit of a long shot - but perhaps this may help a little? I was not really Genealogy/Family History trained, though I had exposure to it, so had to learn it and teach it at the same time. This engaged my interest over the time I taught. >From these classes a group evolved - the Caribbean Family History Group - Solihull & Birmingham. (Initially just Solihull to indicate where we operated from) which involved myself, some of the students from both sets of classes taught (a set that I taught and another set taught by David Hayes - he is responsible for the LDS Sutton Coldfield Family History Centre.) and other individuals who linked up with us in due course. The group met on a bi-monthly basis from 2008 where we had meetings to share what we had learned, listened to speakers, sought to develop etc.. In the intervening months and at other times, those of us that could, would go down to London - to the LDS Family History Centre to view the microfilm records of the Caribbean islands, that they held there (now at National Archives). This proceeded until early 2010, where we decided as a group to put on an exhibition of Caribbean Family History as part of Black History Month. With the great help of Solihull Library staff (especially the able and gifted Tracey Williams) we put on that exhibition with enjoyment and success - getting both radio and a some TV coverage in the process. We repeated/updated this again in October 2011 but in the meantime we also took the exhibition to Nottingham Library and were sought, to be involved in Who Do You Think You Are Live - 2011, as an operating Caribbean Family History Group after Ainsley Harriott was invited back to the event. The group then became officially organised as a constituted group in June 2011 and are due to have our first AGM in April this year. We wanted to be back at Who Do You Think You Are 2012 after the experience in 2011 where we learnt just how relevant Caribbean Family History research is to both Afro Caribbeans and Europeans with ancestry that lived there for a while. We achieved this and once again had a good experience, which we hope to repeat in 2013" --------------------------------------------------------------------- Non-members are welcome to attend for a £2 charge.
