Thanks John I had noticed the list traffic seemed less than it had been for both this and other lists. I think family history interest must have soared when census info etc originally became widely available online and now perhaps we're down to those with more of a lifetime interest. That reminds me I must start putting some queries out on the list about my own Montgomeryshire ancestors and see whether anyone can help me get over my brick walls! Thanks should be given to a Mr. Vaughan. He has not yet let me know if he wishes to be named in person. He paid almost £100 for this. Unfortunately I have found such remnants of Montgomery are lacking compared to other counties. Thanks for the break down on the works, I think you are right. ---- It seems most of the people listed are labourers and only people in and around Alberbury. Evening List, A fellow researcher recently acquired a document, a private census that contains detail that is usually not recorded - particularly for labourers. The Surman index has already been mentioned, although this is for nonconformist clergy (mainly Congregational/Independent churches). There are also various published lists of university graduates (e.g. Alumni Oxonienses and Alumni Cantabrigienses), although Wales had a relatively high proportion of non-graduate clergy - see also http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/TheoColl.html. The main unpublished archival sources for beneficed clergy and curates would be the diocesan registers in the National Library of Wales. AJ

Hi Graham , Was your mother Gladys M Morgan, (I have no connection to this family) but if she is I think I have them in 1911 census. Lynne.
I haven't been active on this list for some time, but I have been lurking about in the background. Now I'm back to my Welsh ancestry after having been working in other parts of the forest. I seem to remember that there is a website where you can find information about Welsh clergymen in the 17th-18th centuries. It gave a list of them, where they were educated and where they served.
