    1. [POWYS] Ruth Baker's query about Llandudno
    2. Mike Cox
    3. Hello Ruth. More info from the www.olle.co.uk site forum: On the 1901 census which would have taken place in April, Ashby manor Lloyd street was the home of Diana Hughes, originally from Monmouth, Usk. her Occupation was Boarding house keeper. The other five occupants were servants and visitors. One of the visitors was a Nurse possibly the companion of one Fanny Rickets a photographer from Welshpool. It's possible that people visited Llandudno and stayed at boarding houses for health reasons - the sea air and bathing was said to have healing properties at the time! At a different time the house may have been a Convalescent home of which there seem to have been a few in Llandudno. The properties mentioned on the same page are Caradoc House, Brinkburn House, Maelgwyn Hotel, Bodnod House,Westminster Hotel, Central Hotel and the New Town Hall as well as the Welsh Wesleyan Chapel. As there are many large houses in the Lloyd Street area it would be difficult to find out which one was Ashby Manor if it has since been renamed - the name suggests it might be a fairly grand place. The Brinkburn and the Bodnod were amalgamated alongside several other hotels to become the Ambassador hotel. This might indicate that Ashby Manor has amalgamated with another hotel at some point, or might be one of the large buildings that now incorporate the shops leading away from the St Georges and the one opposite (The Queens?) This link gives an excellent potted history of what is now The Ambassador http://www.hotelambassador.co.uk/historyhotel.html Hope this is helpful. Heddwch Mike. 2. Daphne Lees
    3. Hello Rhiannon Quote from Family Bible:- "John Lewis was married to Elinor PRICE at Nantmel in the Spring of 1790 she was born in 1750 Native of Llanafonfawn and died at Llwyngfriod March 20th 1806 and burried Nantmel" Does this Elinor PRICE fit into your family tree? I do hope I've spelt the place names correctly. This Bible was the property of my grandmother who was an EDWARDS. My main line is EDWARDS and LEWIS of which I have had a great deal of help from Lloyd in Cwmdauddwr. Regards Daphne

    1. [POWYS] Re Prices of LLYWEL
    2. Roger M Evans
    3. Heather, Reference the Prices Reading "ROOTS and BRANCHES" I find that in 1753 an indenture was enterred into between 1. Morgan Watkin 2. Thomas Price, Llwynonn and Watkin Williams, Defynnog 3. Rees Price, Llwynonn (father of Thomas Price and Rachel Price his eldest daughter. The indenture released to use (prior to the marriage of Morgan Watkin and Rachel Price) of messuages and lands known as T'yr Nant Ceinog, T'yr Meyty(now Meity) otherwise t'yr Meredydd Whyth and T'yr Meyty Issa in the parish of Llywel Does this fit with your knowledge of the family? although the dates seem out of context with your note, so this could be a generation earlier.
