It might be relevant that Philip's Street Atlas of Powys notes two locations (with odd spellings) 'Upper Noyadde' and 'Lower Noyadde' about a mile north of Llowes. Hi Lewis, Thanks for your suggestion but that was the first place I went after discovering the existence of this character. I'd come across a snippet of a entry in the National Biographical Dictionary but only knew the surname. Eventually I found out it was Henry LLOYD and that was believed to be linked to the LLOYDs of Cwmbychan, near Llanbedr. Good Evening Alison, Pat Powell Springer here............................I have a H. Stanley Jones mentioned on the Madoc Castle Powells. Stanley bought the castle in 1946. You can view a copy of this chart in Llandrindod, Wales at the Powys Archives. I think there might be more Joneses on the chart. Will look real good on the chart, and see if I can find more. I have the e-mail address he put on the CD I bought from him a couple of years ago, along with his address. I do not want to send that information through a mailing list, as it would subject him to spam due to scanning computers looking for e-mail addresses. Hi Listers, Making a visit in search of someinformation concerning one Henry LLOYD who was a supporter of Bonnie Prince Charlie during the Jacobite Rising. I found the following reference on the POWYS List but when I sent message to the addresses shown, they bounced. Hello Annie, I don't know about Welsh regiments at Culloden, but you might be interested in General Henry Lloyd, who was one of Bonnie Prince Charlie's aides, if you don't know about him already. I have an article written by a relative and published in a Welsh-interest magazine 2 or 3 years ago. The article discusses whether Henry Lloyd was related to the Lloyds of Cwm Bychan (near Harlech), who are my own Lloyds. It also considers whether Henry Lloyd was perhaps in fact a double agent who was really working for the Hanoverian government. Fascinating stuff! I expect for the regimental data you would have to go to London or use a researcher there. Hello Everyone, My wife and I have just moved into the Tan Y Neuadd property; a converted barn opposite the Neuadd at Cwmcamlais. I was looking to research into who used to own the Neuadd farm, and what the barn used to look like. We have the water wheel pit outside the barn, but no water wheel - does anyone know where the wheel is? I was hoping it was preserved and taken to some sort of museum! Any information on the Neuadd barn at Cwmcamlais would be appreciated! Thank you in advance, Mr Pete James & Mrs Maria James

Hi Alison et al, Thanks for your two emails, firstly I have subscribed to the British Columbia list and received some very interesting information and suggestions however it is even more quiet than this one and emails have come to a stop. My husband Brian's grandfather was one of eight brothers and sisters and three of the men emigrated to Canada and one to America around 1910. They all worked in the wool mills in the Halifax, Yorkshire area and apparently the Canadian Government sent representatives to promote their country by offering eighty acres of land in Saskatchewan to anyone interested in emigrating. Brian's great uncles and their families moved to the Tisdale area and started building homesteads and working the land which was passed into their ownership. They all stayed there and made successes of their lives despite the fact that they had no experience of farming and no doubt life in the early days must have been very difficult. I was pleased you sent the "Ancestors on Board" website as it will be interesting to discover which Welsh ports were used to sail to Canada in 1890. Thanks again for your help. Wrong time frame, and this is west but might be of interest ... reply I got from a Canadian list a year ago (re travel in 1926): "there was an emigration scheme by the Canadian government to get workers out to the Canadian West in the 20s to help with the harvest. There was heavy advertisement in Great Britain .... Their passage would have been paid by the CPR (Canadian Pacific Railway) or other organization, as they were desperate for farm help." Margaret - assume you've posted your query to relevant Canadian lists? Alison
Margaret I wondered how my grandfather wound up in Canada. They used to advertise for farm hands in local newspapers, at least at the time my g/father migrated there. Someone on one of the Canadian lists kindly posted me an example advert ... I really have no idea where it is at this moment (will try looking in my filing cabinet later - if find will scan). 1911 Canadian census - think you need a specific address? Sorry for the dead end suggestion re Ancestors on Board - should read the website more carefully. Hi John, Carol, Alison and Carrol, Thank you for your responses to my email. Thomas lived on a smallholding of 26 acres in the small parish of Llangurig before moving south where he was employed in a steel works in Merthyr Tydfil at some period between 1871 and 1881. He left for Canada and arrived in 1888 in the Kamloops area to work on the Douglas Lake Cattle Ranch. There would have been sheep on the farm in Wales so it would have been completely different although of course he would have been working in the open air which he would have missed when working in the steel works. Thomas became a foreman on the ranch, a position he held for many years before leaving in April 1912 to go into partnership with a friend and buying the Northern Transfer Company. Sadly Thomas had his leg amputated in the August and died in the October age 52 years, he never married. I wonder how Thomas came to hear about the job at the Douglas Lake Ranch as I am sure that he wouldn't have travelled all the that way without some idea of what he was going to do. The journey in Canada would have been easier than in the past before the railway as it had been opened a couple of years earlier. Thank you for the website addresses, they will keep me busy however the "ancestors on board" one goes from 1890-1960 so doesn't cover the year Thomas left Wales. I may be able, however to look at sailings to give me an idea where he was likely to have sailed from and to I have Thomas' death record and also his entry on the 1901 Census where he was living in the Yale & Cariboo District however I have been unable to find him in 1911. Are there any other censuses available for searching on line? Thanks again for your help. Dear Margaret Am really pleased to see that you have managed to pick up the threads of your FH.? I hope this means that you are feeling better! Still no baby!!!! Ruth -----Original Message----- From: Brian & Margaret Harvey <bgh-mgh@teanstaffs.fsnet.co.uk> To: powys@rootsweb.com Sent: Fri, 27 Jul 2007 9.15pm Subject: Re: [POWYS] Sailing to Canada from Wales in 1888 Hi John, Carol, Alison and Carrol, Thank you for your responses to my email.
