Darlene, I am replying back via the Powys list so that others may follow the conversation and perhaps be able to assist. Your reply to me was direct, off-list. Best to use "Reply All" function in the future. Many/most of us are far away from Wales -- I live in the U.S. This does not mean you don't have access to records via other means. As for the marriage of Mary JONES to Richard Charles EVANS, do you know if the marriage took place in Wales or did they emigrate with their respective families and meet in the U.S.? If in Wales, it was most common to be married in the home parish of the bride. It should be relatively easy to search for the index entry for the marriage using the online http://www.northwalesbmd.org.uk/bmd_welcome.html and http://www.freebmd.org.uk/ Search using Richard and a separate search for Charles -- it was not uncommon for someone who had a middle name to use it instead of the forename. Hi John, The Capel database lists it, but does not say which denomination used this chapel. In the Non-comformist Register by the NLW it gives two chapels in Crickhowell: Tanycastell Calvinistic at SO 21721818 No Name Wesleyan at SO21621832 Not much help but may eliminate some possibilities. Dear Listers, I'm still working steadily through my collection of photographs of churches and chapel, and adding them to the 'Welsh Churches and Chapels' feature on my website (see www.jlb2005.plus.com/walespic/churches/). A few months ago I photographed a former nonconformist chapel situated in Tower Street, Crickhowell. The building has been converted into high class self-catering holiday accommodation, but I'm trying to find out about the origins of the chapel building. As it is not identified on the 1891 Ordnance Survey map on the Old-Maps website (www.old-maps.co.uk/), I suspect it was built in the late 19th century or early 20th century. It does not seem to be listed in the Coflein database (www.coflein.gov.uk/). Can anyone tell me anything about the chapel? When was it built, and by whom? What religious denomination did it represent? When did it close down? I'd be very grateful for any help. Dear Rosemary I have a Catherine Prosser who was born 25th October 1844 at Lowes/Painscastle/Llanbedr depending on the census. Catherine, age 20, married Sameul Smout on the 12th August 1865 at Cusop Parish Church. Her father was John Prosser (Labourer). A daughter, Elizabeth Ann Smout was born 9th February 1868 at Cwm Howell, Llandewifach. She married a William Williams born in Paincastle c 1864 who was working at Noyadd (maybe a different Noyadd) at the 1881 census (Price family). William & Elizabeth Ann were married on 17th May 1889 at The Register Office, Hay and lived in Llyswen where four children where born. One was my grandfather. The family kept the Bridgend Inn, Llyswen around 1920. Do you have the marriage certificate of John & Catherine Prosser? Malcolm

If anyone has any connections with a John Prosser and his wife Catherine formerly Pugh, who were at the above address about 1854 I would love to hear from you. Many thanks once again Regards Rosemary
Hi Rosemary, I can't offer any connection to John and Catherine but I do have Pughs from Llowes and Glasbury in my family tree. The Llowes name that I have are John Pugh (nothing else known!) m. Ann Pugh (must have been related prior to marriage I would think) in 1787 at Glasbury. As far as I am aware he came from Llowes but this is open to verification. There are several Pughs in the graveyard at Llowes - in very nice graves!
