Cae-meiriol is less than a kilometre to the southeast, at SO061671. Hirfron Cottage is at SO048659, about 1 km south of Rhiw-goch. You can access the relevant 2-kilometre square section of a large scale Ordnance Survey map on the Get-A-Map website http://getamap.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/frames.htm In the search section near the top left of the Get-A-Map webpage, enter SO056667 into the search field and click the GO button. Dear List, I wonder if anyone can help me. I can find nothing out about a John Jones Crier of Brecon and Breconshire. I have searched everywhere that I know. He was the bondsman on the marriage licence of John Owens to Frances Jenkins at Y Faenor in 1820. The only Jones links I think I have in my family are the Jones family of Dolfor Hall, Newtown, Kerry, Montg. where William Marsden Jenkins (born 1841 Tredegar son of Richard Jenkins 1808) vicar of Dolfor died on 13th Aug 1869. David Jones of Church house was in attendance at the death. There is a John Jones and family farming at Dolfor Hall in 1861 and 1871. So I know that the Jenkins were linked to the Jones. The Rev. John Jenkins 1770 - 1829 was vicar of Kerry and he married a Miss Jones of Crosswood House. In the 1841 census I also have David Jones 1791 of Dolfor Hall in 1841 being married to a Tryphena c 1791. I believe Tryphena was an Owens. I cannot seem to tie anything up at present and wondered if anyone had the parish records for Kerry/Ceri. with thanks Diana

Dear Thomas, I too have Proberts in my line (we corresponded some time ago on our Jenkins families but could not find a link) I do not know if any of the following is of any help to you but we can try! There are most likely other children to all of the following that I do not have as yet. My great grandfather James Probert 12/11/1850 and he married Agnes Jenkins 16/9/1851 at Llanwenarth Chapel on the 14th February 1873. His father was JOHN Probert bapt. 15/4/1821 at Llanelly. He was a saddler. He married Eliza Watkins baptised 23rd April 1820 Llanwenarth. She was postmistress at Govilon for around 30 years. Hi I have been to Llandrindod Wells Record office several years running (only being able to get there once a year) but cannot check every Parish. I am wondering if anyone has access to the Parish records of Llandefalle, Brecon and can tell me if there is any mention of an Evan Maddy either a birth around 1730-40s or a death around late 1700's. If a birth, and there is also a record of the father and mother I would be grateful for that too. Thanking you in anticipation. Sue in Suffolk
Hi Snowy, I have visited Pen-yr-Heol Baptist Chapel and as John Ball says it is a long way up the road from Velindre to Tregoyd. It seems like it goes on for ever but it is well worth the trip. You have to go over the cattle grids and keep on going always up. You will find it on the right hand side just when you think there is no more road. I didn't exactly find what I wanted but it is such a lovely little Chapel and it is still used. In fact I know of a couple who are going to be buried there when their time comes. Her family come from the Glasbury area as do mine. In fact, we believe we are related.
