    3. Dear List, I wonder if anyone can help me sort this out!? I have a Selina Beaven bapt. 22 February 1807 Llanfihangel Cwmdudaughter of William Beaven and Mary who married Rev. Benjamin Marsden 1803 Leek Staffordshire onthe 26th July 1838 at Cathedine, Brecs. Benjamin Marsden was the curate of Cwmdu (would that be Llanfihangel Cwmdu?) in 1841 and then by 1851 he was the curate of Llanfair Clodogau Montg. and by 1861 he was the vicar of Glascomb Radnorshire. This Benjamin Marsden was the brother of David Marsden 1817 born Llanfair Clydogau who married Eliza Jenkins 1817 Bedwelty (Benjamin was the officiating minister) and also Marianne Marsden 1815 born Llanfair Clydogau who married Richard Jenkins 1808 born Bedwelty, they married in 1839 at Bedwelty, Mons. I also have a Hannah Beaven who married Isaac Jenkins (I believe to be part of my Jenkins family) who married at Bedwelty on the 26th May 1804. I cannot find them on the 1841 census nor can I find a death for them. Can anyone help me find them on the 1841 census please. I think that Hannah Beaven is linked to Selina Beaven but cannot work out how - help! Does anyone have any parish records for Llanfihangel Cwmdu and could perhaps find the baptism of Hannah Beaven around 1780 ish. thanks Diana

    2. Hello Diana, The best way for you to find out about Skkynlas I suppose, is to look at the National Library of Wales website, and type in Skynlas. For now though. I can tell you it is Glasebury. Now there are two parts to Glasebury. Half in Breconshire and half in Radnorshire. So, borderline in any case. Llandeilo Graban is in Radnorshire, but close to the border with Breconshire. Llandewi Cwm is just over the border into Breconshire, and one of my family moved to a farm there in 1891. The next parish from Llandeilo Graban is Llanbedr Painscastle, which is not far from Hay on Wye. The Skynlas connection goes back to the early 1800s and even into the 1700s. There is an elizabeth Probert, blind from birth according to the census information, and she seems to have been shunted from one of the family to the next in each census year. But, she was connected to the Smith side of my family from Llanbedr Painscastle. And it was the Smith line that married into the Baptist cause. Elizabeth Probert was a daughter of Revd. Evan Probert. I believe he died in Bristol. I was told that, I have not found him. A cousin in Florida and I took a great interest in poor Elizabeth Probert. If you think I am being too vague, then I am sorry. But, I have been doing family history research for 26 years, so have gathered all sorts of information from all over the country in that time. Not through the internet either. Ground work mostly. So, you see, I have hundreds of names and places floating around in my head. Some of the details buried just below the surface. If I find anything more specifice for you,I shall be sure and let you know. Don't worry. At present though, I am very tied up helping someone from Llanelli with their tree, so my head is full of that at the moment. Good to hear from you though. thanks, Maureen

    2. Hello Diana, I know nohing of the Marsdens. However, I do have a family link with a Thomas Beavan of Skynlas through my Pugh line of Llandeilo Graban. There was a cousin relationship at first, because Thomas Beavan named his relationship to the Pughs in his will. Also, interestingly enough, I have also got links with the Baptist movement through marriages made in that direction. There is a Probert link connected with the Baptist Church. I have it all down somewhere around the house, but have not looked at it for a while. Life got in the way. In the meanime, I wish you all the best in your research. Regards, Maureen Rhondda

    3. I am planning a family history trip to England and Wales to continue my research and hopefully visit some of the places my ancestors lived. I'm wondering how likely it is that the cottages they lived in are still standing. Is anyone familiar with any of the areas below? Kinnerton - My ancestor, Edward Hughes, lived at "Bank", Kinnerton from at least 1841-1871. The names of other cottages/addresses on the same census page, if I'm reading them correctly; Yonkin, Whitty's, Field __ Cottage (a mason lived there), Rackway, and Bank. Do any of these sound familiar? In 1881, another ancestor, Edmond Rogers, lived in Reeves Cottage, Brampton Bryan. Other places mentioned on the same census page; Park House, Park Cottage. In 1891, he lived in a cottage in Burrington Village, near Burrington Village School. My ancestors also lived in Rodd Nash, Little Brampton and in Combe. How well preserved are these areas? Thanks, Kathryn

    3. Hello Pat, My POWELL ancestors were mainly concentrated in the Brecknock district of Breconshire, particularly St. David's Parish, Brecon Town; Llanspyddyd, Defynnog, Crai, Modrydd etc. So, I cannot see that my records would be of much use to you. I do not have any Pressly POWELL's on my family tree. However, I do have four Lewis POWELL's, which are listed as follows: - Lewis POWELL married Jennett POWELL 23 May 1722/1723. Jennett was born 1690 Defynnog, Breconshire. Lewis POWELL, born 1725 Defynnog and died 1734 Defynnog, Breconshire. Lewis POWELL, born 1865 Cantref and died 30 Aug 1888 Cantref, Breconshire. 3. Dear Glyn, thank you for all you have sent me. I do have the burial of Richard Jenkins c1776 - 1843 and he was buried in Bedwelty churchyard. I have him well documented from 1800 onwards. His first born was George in 1801 who died 1803 and buried in the same grave as his parents Richard Jenkins and Ann nee Moss. I found a Richard Jenkins on the family search IGI bapt. Tallong 5th September 1780 and wondered if he could be my great x 3 grandfather. It doesn't look likely I suppose thanks again Diana ----- Original Message ----- From: "Glyn Davies" <glyn.davies@medwaywelsh.com> To: <powys@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, September 15, 2007 10:45 AM Subject: Re: [POWYS] Breconshire - Trallong > Dear Diana, > > The surname JENKINS is not one of my specialities. The death was registered in Newtown---could this be him? May I suggest that you use the North Wales BMD index [includes all of Montgomeryshire] which identifies events to sub-district level. The death of Griffith Griffiths in 1844 is there identified as in the sub-district of Llanidloes Upper - which covers part of Llanidloes parish and Llangurig parish. 3. Dear Diana, The surname JENKINS is not one of my specialities. However, if it helps, I can tell you that there are only two JENKINS buried in the Salem C.M. Chapelyard, Trallwng, neither of them matching your names or timeframe. In St. David's Churchyard, Trallwng, there are quite a lot of JENKINS, but no Richard nor George amongst them. There is a Richard JENKINS buried in Brychgoed Chapelyard, Defynnog. He died 12th September 1835, aged 86-years (born 1749?). There is also another Richard JENKINS buried in the same Chapelyard. He died on the 21st December 1824, aged 42-years (born 1782?). Not much information I am afraid, but I hope it helps. 3. Hello Glyn Davis, Saw your Post about the Powell Surname, and wondered what Family Line of Powells you might have information. We have a lot (first names), Lewises, and Pressly, or Presslys in our line of Powells. Am searching for my Gr. Gr. Grandfathers parents Lewis R. Powell born 1792, and his brother Pressly Powell, born 1787, both born in Virginia, USA. American records are lost, before 1820 in Hall County Georgia. Any help would be so much appreciated.
