    2. Many thanks for all this old Cambrian data Lyn, I have read them with much interest locally. Do you have any more on the Llanwrthl places please as we know them re the old family links to my wife Audrey. It is the POWYS Family History Society Annual General Meeting here at Llandrindod Wells, Powys, on Saturday next at 11am I understand. But I have not seen any Official Notice of it on this List so far !!!!! Best wishes, Dennis Cleaton, RAD, Powys.

    1. [POWYS] British History Online website - a useful resource
    2. John Ball
    3. Dear Listers, I strongly urge you explore the resources available on the British History Online website at: http://www.british-history.ac.uk/ Of immediate interest to me were: - Complete set of 1:10,560-scale (6 inches to 1 mile) Ordnance Survey maps of the UK, published in the second half of the 19th century. - 1:2500-scale (25 inches to 1 mile) Ordnance Survey maps of selected British towns and cities, including Cardiff. Using the right-click menu, the map images can be printed directly from the website or saved to your computer Bearing in mind that the Old-Maps website (www.old-maps.co.uk/) now prevents users copying, printing, or saving its images, the British History Online website looks to be a most valuable alternative resource for family historians. The British History Online website also offers a complete transcription of the 560 pages of Samuel Lewis's 'A Topographical Dictionary of Wales' published in 1849. This work contains detailed topographical accounts of places, parishes and counties in Wales, arranged alphabetically. Registration with the website seems to be optional, and is free. Happy browsing! 1. [POWYS] Replying to Digest Messages - a reminder from your List Administrator
    2. John Ball
    3. Dear Listers, This gentle reminder applies only to those of you who receive your messages in the form of plain text digests (without attachments). I'd like to remind you that when replying to List messages you should include in your reply only that part of the digest to which your reply refers. Each digest actually carries its own 'health warning': ---------Quote----------- When replying to a digest message, quote only the specific message to which you are replying, removing the rest of the digest from your reply. Also, remember to change the subject of your reply so that it coincides with the message subject to which you are replying. --------Unquote--------- Following this advice will ensure that the content of your reply e-mail is both short and relevant. It can then be read quickly and downloaded quickly and cheaply by those of us still using dial-up internet connections. TNA holds 5,000 registers of a huge variety of nonconformist congregations, including Baptists, Methodists, Presbyterians, Protestant Dissenters (known as 'Dr Williams Library') and Independents. There are also registers from a small number of Roman Catholic communities. Basic searching is free of charge, but there is a fee for advanced searching and to download images. 3. Mr. Thomas ROBERTS, printer, of Carnarvon, has obtained a decree in the Court of Chancery, to set aside a deed procured from him by his father in 1808?, by fraud and without consideration, by which he conveyed his interest in an estate called Brynsteddfod to his said father, by whom it was afterwards devised to his younger children, although the plaintiff was his eldest son and heir at law. The will was likewise set aside, and Mr. ROBERTS has recovered possession of the estate. Mr. EDWARDS, of Plas yr esgob, near Ruthin, Denbighshire, is the fortunate holder of a sixteenth of the 20,000l. prize drawn on Friday last. The Lottery which finished the 6th inst. was the first to which Mrs. OAKEY, BOOKSELLER, SWANSEA, acted as BISH'S Agent to sell Lottery Tickets and Share, and we are happy to learn that she was fortunate to sell one of the Ten Capitals BISH shared. We understand shares of the above Capitals are also gone to Neath, Carmarthen, and other places in this Principality. Two old foxes and seven full-grown cubs were unkenneled on Saturday in a corn-field in the parish of Llanfihangle Tre'r Beirdd, in Anglesea, which had committed great depredations among the poultry in the neighbourhood. Two of the marauders were taken alive, and the remainder destroyed. Lyn Nunn Brisbane Australia

    3. Does anyone have information on the Cornwall Farm stated to be Llanfigan (and a few other spellings)? I understand it is near Brecon. The David PRITCHARD family was there circa 1841-1851. They are listed as (R)ichard on the 1841 Census. Thank you for any information. John

    3. Wednesday morning, a female child about five years old, being left alone in he house of her father at Neath, set her clothes on fire, and was dangerously burnt; she ran into the street enveloped inflames, and the first person that observed her tearing off the burning garments, saved her from immediate death. We are sorry to state, that the only son of the Rev. John JONES, Rector of Killie-Ayron, Cardiganshire, a promising youth of 14, was unhappily drowned last week while bathing in the river Towy, near Carmarthen. The son also of Mr BARRAR, painter of Monmouth, a boy about seven years old, amusing himself with gathering flowers on the bank of a fish-pond at that place, fell into the water, and no assistance being near, he unfortunately perished. On Thursday morning, as the brig Merchant Taylor, of St Ives, Edward JOHN, master, was sailing from Newport to Plymouth, laden with coals, she ran foul of the Caroline, Cork trader and stove in two of her waist planks, which occasioned the total loss of the Merchant Taylor; the captain and crew having only time to save themselves on the bowsprit of the Caroline, before she went down. We are sorry to say, the property was all the captain's, and not a sixpence insured. Lyn Nunn Brisbane Australia
