    3. Hi Dennis, The sister was Jane HAMMONDS, she was baptised in 1772 d/o Thomas & Mary (nee DIASS) and married in Berriew 1797. As Francis MILLS was from Bettws Cedewain I assume she went to live there. I haven't checked but I'm travelling down to Powys archives next March and checking Bettws PRs is on my long list of things to do. I haven't found Jane in the census, but I have no evidence of where she lived or when she died, and I'd think that only her death might be in the BMDs, although I haven't actually looked. I use NorthWales BMDs quite a lot - as it gives the sub-district as well as the registration district I've used this to collate with the census details and I managed to pick out the right Jones birth cert first time! 3. Hi Listers, I just wondered whether anyone is researching the HAMMONDS family of Berriew, MGY, particularly Richard c1781-1858 and Edward c1784-1860 & their descendants. Looking in the archives there were a couple of entries about this family from 2000 and 2005, but the email addresses are no longer active. Regards, Ellie Thomas

Assuming, like Jean Rayford, you can quote the full GRO BMD index reference, the cost is £7.00 (7.00 GBP) per certificate, including postage: www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/births/obtainingbirthcertificates/certificatefees.asp Payment is by credit card or debit card and the on-line ordering service from the GRO is now quite speedy. 3. Hello Jean Probably the easiest way for you to purchase your certificate is to go into your bank and ask them for a sterling cheque to the amount of £7.00. You should then send this together with 3 International Reply Coupons (available from your local post office) to The Registrar, The Shirehall, Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury, Shropshire SY2 8LY. You should also enclose a self-addressed envelope and give full details of the Certificate you require eg. Names, Place, Date, Event. Would the farm be in the township of Hendidley, rather than Hendidley being part of the farm name? ================ Dear Carrol, Your "Miodd Hendidley" is actually a misreading of "Niodd Hendidley" which is possibly a corrupted spelling of "Neuadd Hen Didley" (Old Didley Hall). It is the name of a farm, identified on modern Ordnance Survey maps as "Nyodd Hendidley". Nyodd Hendidley Farm is at grid reference SO090916. You can see the relevant 2-kilometre square section of a large scale Ordnance Survey 'Explorer' map at the Get-A-Map website http://getamap.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/frames.htm In the search section near the top left of the Get-A-Map webpage, enter SO090916 into the search field and click the GO button. By using the zoom control buttons to the middle left of the map (if necessary) obtain a 2 km x 2 km section of a 1:25,000 scale map centred on Nyodd Hendidley. The same map also shows Beehive Cottage, Scafell, and Greenlane Cottage, all of which are shown as neighbouring properties on the same page in the 1901 census. 3. Hi Carroll, To figure out where District 9 is, check out the descriptions of the Enumeration Districts. When you have the census page on your computer screen, at the top of the screen it says Montgomeryshire > Llanllwchaiarn>District 9. Click on Llanllwchaiarn and you can then click on Districts 7, 8, 9, and 10 for descriptions of the areas covered. Distr. 7 is basically the north part of the center of town (called Pen-y-glodfa). Distr. 8 is the area south of Commercial St. and east along the river to the point where it flows more a little more easterly than it had, but still NE. Distr. 9 is mostly to the N/ NW of town and Distr. 10 the the NE of town. I have a 1902 map of Newtown, and the farm names are not mentioned, except Rock farm to the east and Bryn Farm which my great-aunt wrote in at Lower Bryn. Also, try Googling Hendidley. The Genuki site has some info. 3. I have recently received the marriage certificate of Mary Jones of Gwanafon, Trefeglwys [father Edward Jones, deceased] and William Francis of Bwlchyllyn, Trefeglwys which opened up a possible crack of a door for us with regard to Roger's "Jones" grandmother, and our assumption that Mary's family centres around Rhyd y carw Mill, Gwanafon Farm and ?*? in Llanllwchairn in 1901. On the 1901 census, RG13/5196, Folio 139, Pg 10, Llanllwchairn, District 9, Phoebe [Davies] Jones [whom I assume is Mary's mother; father Edward is deceased] is living at "Miodd Hendidley" with her son, David, and nephew, Evan E Jones. Is anyone able to correct my spelling of this residence/farm and provide any information on the meaning of the name. Would the farm be in the township of Hendidley, rather than Hendidley being part of the farm name? I may be completely off track with my assumption, and would appreciate input from any list member who can tell me that Roger's family cannot be from this line as their own research has been proven to include Phoebe Jones and that she didn't have a daughter Mary who married into the Bwlchyllyn Francis family. FYI, Mary died in 1899 at Bwlchyllyn, Oakley Park, Llanidloes UD giving birth to Roger's aunt, Mary aka Maisie. His mother, Gwladys, was born in 1897 at Bwlchyllyn, Trefeglwys. I have ordered Mary's birth certificate but have not yet received it . she was born in November 1869 . her birthdate was taken from her and William's headstone at the Dol Halfren Cemetery in Llanidloes. Does anyone know if Bwlchyllyn, Oakley Park, Llanidloes and Bwlchyllyn, Trefeglwys would be the same property but the description would be different in 1895 [marriage certificate] and 1899 [death certificate]? I don't want to proceed to order a number of related marriage and death certificates if we are going in the wrong direction and will appreciate any input offered. A lot of questions which I hope are clearly stated. Thanks for your assistance. Carrol Drew Researching: Drew and Price in Radnorshire; Francis and Jones in Montgomeryshire
