You can see the relevant Ancestral File details by going to http://tinyurl.com/x3vl and entering the name Arthur Evans and the year 1754 into the search form. Leave all the other search fields blank. Joan Udd <joanudd@gmail.com> wrote: I joined the Powys list because my ancestor, Arthur Evans, according to the Family Search Ancestral file had a family and eleven children born in Churchstoke, Churchstoke, Mgy, Wales. Since I live in Washington State, USA these designations are not familiar to me. Can you explain why Churchstoke is listed twice and does Mgy mean Montgomery? ================== Dear Joan, Always treat the information displayed on Ancestral Files with great caution. As the note at the bottom of the relevant webpage states: ----------------- Ancestral File is a collection of genealogical information taken from Pedigree Charts and Family Group Records submitted to the Family History Department since 1978. The information has not been verified against any official records. Since the information in Ancestral File is contributed, it is the responsibility of those who use the file to verify its accuracy. ----------------- You therefore need to contact the submitter of the information on the Arthur Evans family, to find out the original sources of his data. These will then reveal why the word Churchstoke is repeated. The contact details for the submitter (Roger Scott Lewis) are displayed when you follow the Submitter 'Details' link. MGY is the 'Chapman code' for Montgomeryshire. Unless you know the original of Mr Lewis's data, you should not accept them as authentic. Genealogical Society is just to publish transcriptions as booklets and also to have them online at FamilyHistoryOnline. Bryn
