    1. [POWYS] (BRE) EDMUNDS/REES, Llanelly Parish - More
    2. Julie Preston
    3. Catherine, Further to my previous posting, I decided to look again at FreeBMD for all EDMUNDS births registered in Breconshire between Dec. Qtr. 1910 and 1920. The early ones do not include the mother's maiden surname but the later births do and there were a number of children registered before your John in 1919 -- some of them, at least, appear to belong to your Benjamin and Emily but there are some cases where two children were registered closely together in time so it'll take some detective work: March Qtr. 1911 Edmunds, Edgar (No mother's surname) Crickhowell, 11b, 80 and another possibility: June Qtr. 1911 Edmunds, Annie M. (No mother's surname) Crickhowell, 11b, 80 (Questionable but interesting) June Qtr. 1913 Edmunds, Harriet O. Edmunds Crickhowell, 11b, 182 March Qtr. 1814 -- 2 entries! Edmunds, Margaret A. Rees Crickhowell, 11b, 143 and Edmunds, William B. Rees Crickhowell, 11b, 161 June Qtr. 1915 Edmunds, Mary M.N. Rees Pontardawe, 11a, 2161 and Sept. Qtr. 1915 Edmunds, Cissie Rees Crickhowell, 11b, 172 March Qtr. 1916 Edmunds, Benjamin Rees Crickhowell 11b, 128 (Your John registered 1919) Dec. Qtr. 1924 Edmunds, Elsie Rees Crickhowell 11b, 130 ----------------------- Hope this helps. Kind regards, Julie Preston juliefpreston@sbcglobal.net

    3. Catherine, If you haven't already located this result -- obtained from Freebmd -- it would be worth contacting the Supt. Registrar's office directly and asking them to look for the marriage -- Crickhowell included Llanelly -- of course, they don't use the GRO reference numbers but the window of Oct-Dec. 1910 and the name, as well as the known address at the time of John Edmunds' birth should help. Dec. Qtr. 1910 Edmunds Benjamin Crickhowell 11b _1_ (When clicking on the page, the results say "this facility was not available for the entry....either or both of the Volume and Page were not readable when the index was transcribed) Kind regards, Julie Preston juliefpreston@sbcglobal.net ----- Original Message ----- From: <Caedmunds@aol.com> To: <POWYS@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, February 15, 2008 2:46 PM Subject: [POWYS] EDMUNDS/REES Llanelly Parish > Hello, > > I've recently received a copy of my grandfather John EDMUNDS' birth > certificate, naming his parents as Benjamin Edmunds and Emily Rees. 2. Hi again, I thought you night find the GRO reference for Godfrey & Jennie's marriage useful: Mar Qtr 1901 Godfrey Ivor Jones Jennie Edwards King's N. 6c, 549 Assuming that you don't already have a copy of the certificate, obtaining one would give you at least their father's names, which should give you a hand in pinning them down on the census'. Best wishes, Catherine.

    2. Hi Jenny, Not sure if this is going to be of any help, but here's hoping. On the 1891 I did a search for Godfrey Jones - Year of birth 1881 +/- 5 years. It cam up with a promising looking: Godfrey J Jones Age 9: Administrative Area: Aberystruth, Bedwelty The 1901 is a tricky one! The best I can come up with is through a search for G Jones - Year of birth 1881 +/- 5years: G Jones Age: 20 Born: Caernarvon Garn Administrative County: Monmouthshire Civil Parish: Abertillery Occupation: Coal Miner Hewer 1881 is a bit hit & miss due to the birth year, so I haven't really looked at that one. 1901 search for Je* Edwards - Year of birth 1882 +/- 5 years was much more productive: Jennie J Edwards Age: 17 Where born: Radnor Rhyader Administrative County: Glamorgan Census Place: Pontypridd I'm afraid I drew a blank on Jennie in the 1891. Hopefully Jennie's household record for 1901 & Godfrey's for 1891 will help you over the wall. Best wishes, Catherine.

    3. Hello, I noticed the name Sarah Davies who married at Llanelly, St. Ellyw in 1835. I have a John Davies who married Elizabeth Prosser at the same church in 1834. Wondering if Sarah could be related to John? I have no family information on John. He was probably born about 1810. I also have this information, marriage note from parish record: “Marriage solemized in the Parish of Llanelly in the county of Brecon in the Year 1834. John Davies, bachelor of ths Parish and Elizabeth Prosser, spinster of this Parish were married in theis church by Banns with consent ___ this second Day of November in the Year one Thousand eight Hundred and thirty four by me J. Bowen, Curate. This marriage was John Davies solemized between us Elizabeth Prosser by X mark in the presence of John Williams, Henry Williams”. Elizabeth's parents were William and Sarah (Robert) Prosser, also married at St. Ellyw. If anyone has information on these families, please get in touch! 3. Thanks for that! I investigated the site and found birth date of an elusive relative in 1824. I'd searched microfiche baptism registers in vain but there he was in the Protestant Dissenters' Register. It also gave me his mother's name and her parents. It was worth purchasing £5 worth of credits to get through the wall.
