    3. Hi David, If you are using Windows 7 there is in the Control Panel a legacy operating system. Control Panel>Programs (in green)>Programs and Features> click on "Run programs made for previous versions of Windows". A program Compatibility wizard then pops up. Follow instructions. When you next open Legacy 7.04 There is a hiccup on the screen whilst the program loads. You are asked via a "User Account Control" if you want to let the program take control of your computer. Say Yes. Any other program you already have open or any new one still operates under Windows 7. Hope that makes sense Mike I have just got Family Tree Maker 2011. Upgraded from v16. Very big and powerful, loads a lot quicker then v16, even though I have a lot of images of census documents and photos, etc. Stores them outside the main program. 3. Hi All I thought I would list my interests in Powys. My 2x Great-grandfather was a farmer and the parish clerk for Cathedin on the 1851 census, which gave his date of birth as about 1796 in Cathedin. I think he married an Elizabeth Price from Trallong on 28 Aug1830 and one of their children was John Jones, born about 1843 in Cathedin. Does anyone have access to the Parish records for Cathedin from the late 18th century. I would love to find Henry Jones or John Jones christening records. David HB

    3. Until version 3 I would have unhesitatingly recommended RootsMagic. Version 4 is unfinished product, where duplicate source even duplicate events turn up with depressing monotony. There is supposed to be a feature that automatically merges these type of problems, but it doesn't work. The one good thing is that it can now connect directly to the LDS new family search, so if you are a member (I am not) you can search for duplicates in other peoples trees and link them to yours so your tree can grow very quickly. 3. David: I am really sorry to hear that you have had these problems with Legacy. It is such a good program, and the man who runs it is very eager to help with any problems, that I had hoped you had contacted him and that he had been able to help you with your problem. We have several of us who live in Albuquerque, and we use Legacy and Windows 7 without a problem. Hope you get the help you want from another program. I for one have used Roots Magic several years ago, and found it very cumbersome and difficult to use. The learning curve was very high and I gave up on it. I have loved Legacy. Good luck in your quest. Unfortunately, I can't directly answer your question because I have no experience of using Roots Magic 4. However, I suggest you consider switching to Family Historian (now in version 4.1) which I *do* use and which works perfectly under Windows 7. 3. Does anyone have any family memories passed down about Vicars Frederick Tompson and John Edward Tompson? They served in several churches in Wales over their careers. Their ancestry is in Staffordshire. Llanllwchaian and Chirk Rev. Frederick Tompson served at Llanllwchaian and Chirk, and is buried there (1880). His wife was Frances Metcalfe, daughter of Vicar John Metcalfe. He was married to Frances in Burton, Staffordshire. Mochdre and Esclusham Rev. John Edward Tompson, married by his Uncle Frederick in Llanllwchaian to Frederick's daughter Caroline Tompson, served at Mochdre for many years. He went from there to Esclusham Church in Rhostylln and has a window dedicated to him there, so must have been well-liked. He moved (1914) when quite elderly to Childswickham in Gloucestershire, where we was still leading the choir when he died (1919). Any memories will be much appreciated. Thank you from Ellen
