    1. Re: [POWYS] FW: Roll call ~ FARR
    2. Myra Duffy
    3. Hi, May I join the hunt for FARR? My first cousin (3 times removed) Sarah Powell born Abbey Cwmhir 1840, married a Robert Farr in 1873. (Kington Region of Herefordshire) Robert was the son of Richard & Maria Farr. Richard Farr was born in Staunton on Arrow1795. Maria was born in 1804 in Gladestry. I have no other information about this FARR family. Robert was born about 1842 in Lyonshall, Herefordshire and died in 1905.(Presume in Titley, Hereford where he lived at that time) My gt gt grandfather, Evan Powell, (Sarah's uncle) was living with Richard and his daughter, Ada Elizabeth Farr (born 1875) , in Titley when he died in 1893 (his sister had predeceased him.) Hope this may help someone. Please get in touch if you think you have a connection. 2. Hi Shirley and All, I lived in Hereford some years ago and I knew some Farr people there - the late Alderman A E Farr, and some now retired ones like me, and all local to Hereford. The son of one lives in Tenbury Wells now, and we met at a funeral last year. Did Tomey Farr the prewar Boxer link to Hereford?? 3. For all Glasbury seekers. Perhaps many of you know of this, but thought I would share it for those who don't know. The Glasbury and Breconshire (mainly Glasbury) records can be found at: http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=glasbury%20register%20AND%20collecti on:americana They can be downloaded and searched. I have just transcribed the records for FreeReg and don't know if they've been uploaded yet. 3. Hi Roy, There is a village in Monmouthshire called Bryngwyn. It lies midway between Raglan and Llanarth. It has its own parish church, so its parish records would be the place to look for James Richard's baptism. http://web.me.com/clmorgan/Raglan_Parishes/History_Bryngwyn_Church.html My great grandfather farmed in the Bryngwyn you found, but that was in Radnorshire. Regards Dave in Oz I have been searching for the birthplace of my great,great,g/father, James Richards. In every census, from 1841 to 1871,his birthplace is given as Monmouthshire, and what looks like Bryngwyn...always indistinct! by using a modern Gazeeter,I have only found one place that resembles it. Bryngwyn ,Powys, just off the B2594. James was born 1808 and married Ann Edwards (b.c1815) at Lugwardine Herefordshire, 5/4/1834. I have been unable to find James' birth or baptism any where. Can someone help, please?

    3. Seth, I think my choice was a lucky fluke!  Just goes to show that many minds make light work (or something like!) I am just glad to help where I can.  Everyone on the lists is so helpful that its nice to be able to help someone else for a change. On the site there appear to be two versions. The first, on the one I looked at, the reference for 1808 is for a James born to a William and Temperance Williams. But this must a mistake - because the other version marks them - fitting with other entries - as William and Temperance Richards. Perhaps that is why you had difficulty finding the baptism - if, like me, you found information only from the other list. Good job Sue looked as the other list..and good job there were two. 3. Yes, looked again - checking my eyes were not failing me! The Bishops Transcripts mark James as born to William and Temperance Richards - correct - but the typed version lower down has it as Williams. On such things years of research could turn...what a case. Memorable. Three cheers for BTs and the placing of both versions on site. 1. Re: [POWYS] MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE.
    2. Hello John If you have the GRO reference, then you can order your certificate on line from the General Records Office at Southport. You can pay on line, and I think that the current cost is £9.50. Normally you could expect to receive the cert within a week but with the postal services in their current state of disarray it might take longer. Hope this helps Tudor ---- John Hughes <[email protected]> wrote: > Hello > can anyone advise me of the cost of a marriage certificate for llanfyllin district and where do i have to send a cheque to. > regards. > john > > =================== > Visit the Powys Mailing List webpage at: www.jlb2005.plus.com/powyslist.htm > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. Hi Roy There is no James Richards baptised in Bryngwyn St Peters at that date. You will find the registers by typing in "Monmouthshire Baptisms" and finding a marvellous registers free-pages site. There is a Richards family having children in the parish, but no James. Don't know if this is the right Bryngwyn. seth -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of R Davies Sent: 13 January 2011 17:26 To: [email protected] Subject: [POWYS] Bryngwyn Good evening, I have been searching for the birthplace of my great,great,g/father, James Richards. In every census, from 1841 to 1871,his birthplace is given as Monmouthshire, and what looks like Bryngwyn...always indistinct! by using a modern Gazeeter,I have only found one place that resembles it.
