    3. Stacey,   If you sign into your myFTDNA website you'll see that you belong to the WAMH (Western Atlantic Modal Haplotype - western Atlantic when in Europe).  This means you have a VERY common Haplotype.  If you click on the Y-DNA tab on FTDNA's toolbar and then click on Matches you'll see that you have 2969 matches, the most distant of which will be a genetic distance of one (you can differ by a value of one on one marker with a Powell).   What this really tells you is that you need to wait for more markers to be reported.  As you get you 25 marker results and your 37 marker results your matches will drop off rapidly and they will be much more meaningful.   I suggest that you click on the My Account tab and then on Match and E-mail Settings and click on No under the Y-DNA12 Matches and Y-DNA25 Matches.  This will greatly reduce the number of e-mails you'll receive about matches.  When you get your 37 marker results and match e-mail about them they can be meaningful.   When looking at your 12 marker matches on your myFTDNA website you can enter the Powell surname in the last name box, click on Run Report and your matches will be reduced to 8.  Three at 0 steps (genetic distance) and 5 at 1 step.  You'll want to watch these as your additional markers are reported.  Unfortunately two of these people have only tested to 12 markers so we know they will disappear at the next level.  The other six have tested to at least 37 markers.   Just sit tight and wait for additional markers to be report.  As they come in be sure to keep asking questions. I don't mean to sound like an idiot but my inexperience with all this is a handicap with understanding this. Stacey

    3. I have another question for you. Regarding a GEDCOM I uploaded. I created this GEDCOM from Ancestry.com and when I looked at my pedigree on FTDNA after I uploaded... it apprears as though my father's father is a female and my father's mother is a male. Because the box outlines are pink and blue I would assume that means female and male. I don't know how to fix this issue. I've looked at my family tree on Ancestry.com and everything appears to be good there. I have tried uploading this several times and every time it comes up with the same result.
