    2. I have a book (self-published) by the late June Powell Orton, who did extensive research on the Powells in order to identify her family's line. She researched all five Powell families who lived in Adair Co, KY in the 1810 census. "My James Powell married Frances Sanders 13 Feb 1818 in Adair Co, KY. According to the 1860 census, James was born in 1787 in Burke Co, NC. His wife, Frances Sanders, was born c1801 in Wilkes Co, NC. James Powell was not included in the 1810 Adair Co, KY census. June was unable to locate a link between her James and any one of the other Adair County four: (1) Robert Powell, s/o Ambrose and Mary Bledsoe, md. Ann West; (2) John Powell and Phillip Powell, sons of William and Rosannah Powell of Woodford Co, KY; (3) Benjamin Powell and wife Elizabeth (perhaps on of the younger sons of John Powell and Mary O'Neal of Burke Co, NC; (4) brothers Lewis, William and Elias, sons of Ambrose Powell (I have information on these descendants). June thought he was possibly (even probably) a son of James Powell, a large landowner in Burke Co, NC, "whose land lay adjacent to lands of John Powell, Elias Powell and Colbert Blair." The wife and children of this older James were not known by her. June also did extensive research into the Holt family. If this is of any help, I have a small bit more. 3. The James Powell that is the great gg grandfather was born Sept 9, 1759, in Pendleton District, South Carolina. He married Rebecca Bynum born 1770 Orange County , North Carolina. She died Feb 4, 1850, Jefferson County, Alabama. James Powell died Dec26, 1854 in Blount. County, Alabama. He left a will and his son left behind a record of the parents of James Powell and great grandparents. The problem has been that we have not found other documents that tell us about these people. I hope this makes sense to and is helpful.
