    3. I have been following the latest Charles Powell discussion and wanted to add my research information into the mix for everyone's consideration. There seem to be several men named Charles Powell that lived in Chatham County, NC in the late 1700's and into the 1800's. Ones I have stumbled across or heard mentioned are a Charles M. Powell, the one that moved to Georgia and died there in 1805, a possible son of the 1777 Charles Powell named Charles and my ancestor. A possibility of four men with the same name leads to a lot of confusion. My Charles Powell is the only one that stayed in NC until his death in the 1850's. If you look at the Chatham census record for 1800 that is being discussed you will see that this same family appears in the chatham census records through 1830. The ages, number of sons, and location match through the years. In 1835 they bought land a few miles away in Orange County, NC and then appear in that county census in 1840 and 1850. Charles' sons continue to live in the same location and are in the subsequent census records until 1880. You may disagree with my findings, but having studied the census records and land deeds in the 1700s and 1800s I think this is my Charles Powell family. I hope this info helps and does not cause more confusion. There may be more records at the Archives that I did not have time to locate.
