Dear Powell DNA Project members, I recently visited the North Carolina State Archives in Raleigh, NC and took photographs of all the Powell documents I found in their archives which are not available on line. I have loaded the photos onto the Powell Yahoo site for anyone to access. You may have received an email from the Yahoo system about this new file. Several documents I found provide proof that John Powell who lived in Rutherford County, Tennessee in the 1800's was a son of my ancestor Charles Powell from Orange/Chatham Counties in North Carolina. John left NC around 1834 and moved to Tennessee. The 1860 and 1870 census records show him and wife Ann with children Jr., Martha, Manda, and Molly in Rutherford County, TN. Mitchell Powell lives close by and I think this is probably another son. If anyone is researching this Powell line, please get in touch so we can compare information. The documents which relate to Chiles, Jones, Stanford, M.B., Nathaniel, and John Powell numbered 7 and 10-18 below are my Charles Powell line. I believe the rest are other Powell lines which may be relevant to your research. The documents I found are: 1. Bible records of Adin Powell and his son Ashley Powell which start in the late 1700's. 2. Robert and Sarah Powell of Virginia in the 1700's. 3. 1776 Will of Charles Powell of Chatham County, NC. 4. Burns vs. Clegg 1889 lawsuit against Mrs. Ann E. Powell estate. 1889 Decision against estate, Appeal of Judgment, and Appeal Denied. 5. 1828 Inventory of Brittain Powell estate. 6. 1815 Divison of land in Chatham County, NC amongst the heirs of Charles Powell - Atkins, Enoch Powell, William Brewer & wife Jane Powell Brewer. 7. 1892 Chiles Powell Estate. 8. 1815 Barbary Powell Estate. 10. 1883 Jones Powell Estate. 11. 1863 M B Powell Estate (I believe this is Manley Powell who was killed during the Civil War). 12. 1861 Stanford Powell Estate. 13. 1861 Bill of Complaint by Jones, Nathaniel and Chiles Powell against John Powell. 14. 1862 John Powell Response to Bill of Complaint. 15. 1866 Stanford Powell Administrators. 16. Manley Snipes Executor Stanford Powell Estate (1861?). 17. 1872 Stanford Powell Estate Document. 18. 1866 Stanford Powell Estate Document. 19. 1809 Bill of Complaint by Thomas, Josiah, John and Oliver Powell against Lovins. 20. 1809 Lovins Answer to Bill of Complaint.

I finished reordering the photos and adding captions to the first page of each document. You should now be able to view them in order and enlarge to read. Please let me know if you see any that still need tweaking.
