Hello I'm new to this list; but thanks to Jim I can now get involved more directly in exploring my ancestory. I'm still wating for some results from the DNA test I submitted this fall. I really don't understand all the jargon and statistics. All I want to know is if I'm biologically related to another Powell. A factor which complicates my situation is that I also have Powells in my Maternal ancestory. Even though both Powell families originated in Ireland, I don't beleive they were connected. My Paternal Powells imigrated, from County Cork, Ireland; and settled in London Township, Middlesex County, Ontario, Canada ( This area is about 40 to 60 miles east of Port Huron, Michigan). Three brothers George, Ambrose and Stephen CAME TO THIS AREA SOMETIME BETWEEN 1815 AND 1819. .. George was my 2 G Grandfather; and both his and MANY OF Ambroses's families have remained in the original area. Stephen left Ontario and moved west and finally settling in Oregon, USA. Its a contact, I've established, withe stephen's family which prompted me to submit a DNA tes My Maternal Powells were Robert and Nancy(Beatty) Powell, They were both born about 1775/1777 in County Armaugh, Northern Ireland. They and seven of their eight children immigrated to canada sometime between 1815 and 1819 settling in Elizabethtown Township, Leeds County, Ontario, Canada (This area is directly across the St Lawrence River from New York State). Their eldest daughter was Mary (my 3G Grandmother), who married jacob smith and they immigrated about 1822. Their other children were William, David, James, Sarah, Ann, Joseph andd Eleanor. William and James moved to the US and only James returned to Canada. , So I hope I'll be able to connect with some new relatives. To avoid any confusion, I'm a male version of Beverley. Take care Bev Powell [email protected] Strathroy Ontario Canada
I am new to the DNA list. My recent ancestors came from Lebanon,TN and David Smith says that he lives there. I am very excited to find him. I have Powell relatives and I need to go backward from Lebanon. I do not know about Canada or England. I hope to stay in touch with you. Nell, Welcome to the group. Are you descended from the Thomason's of Maury County, TN? I have run across a J. Milt Thomason who was married to Winnie Powell Thomason. They and some others are buried in the Spencer Hill Cemetery in southern Maury County. Because they were in close proximity to Powell's of interest to me, I took note of them.
