    3. Gerald, I think that we are kissing cousins. Powell is my maiden name and we were from Lebanon. My husband's people were from Maury County. We went to Spencer Hill Church of Christ one Sunday. James Uland Thomason is our cousin, we went down to Corinth to visit Jim and Nina. We had a wonderful time. Israel Washington Thomason (Ezra) who went to prison because he was framed was our cousin. His brother was Bill"s (my husband) grandfather's brother. His grandfather was Joseph and he is buried here in Hunt County Texas, where I live. My Bill passed away in 2007 and I have not been back to Maury since then. We went through the Hermitage once, it is still one of my favorite memories. Ezra's brother named a son after him, when I got into the Thomason Family and heard about Uncle Izzy, I tried to just listen and not ask a lot of questions. Jim sent Bill and me a copy of his Screamer book for our 50th wedding anniversary. His dad was Porter Love. OK, just stay with me me-----Bill's Grandfather's people went back to Rachel Alexander marrying James Bennett. Their Daughter Mary married a Thomason. Vera Niemic has written a big book on Southern Bennett, Massey and Devasier Families. I went to see her last summer, she lives in south Texas. We can not find one of her books for me, but she did copy me a lot of pages about Ezra's trial and all of our mutual relatives. She is nearly 90 and sharp as a tack. She has a large genealogy library in her home and will let anyone in to look at it. (James Bennett was a ggg? grandfather to her). He was hanged. I hope that I have not rambled too much. Nell Oh Dottie Thomason tells me that Irene from the Museum in Mt. Pleasant is compiling a new book. Dottie will work at the Museum on Thursday and she will send me the address and tell me Irene's name. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Powell, Gerald" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, December 02, 2008 4:32 PM Subject: Re: [POWELL-DNA] New to list > Nell, > > Welcome to the group. > > Are you descended from the Thomason's of Maury County, TN? 3. My Great Grandfather William A Powell graduated from law school at Cumberland University in Lebanon TN. He was in the first graduating class when the school opened after the civil war. I have not found a connection to the Powell's that resided in that area but I feel there probably is one. My direct line of Powell's migrated down from Stewart CO TN around 1820 to West TN/Haywood County. They went to Stewart CO from Bertie CO NC, though I believe they resided in the Sampson CO NC area for some period before the Bertie to Stewart move. Don't know if this will add anything to this string but thought I would throw it out. My father passed away in Corinth MS in 1968 so it kind of prompted me to say something when I saw Corinth show up in the verbiage ... don't know why.
