Depending on your Haplotype FTDNA will predict your Haplogroup. Once that has been done you will be offered the opportunity to take SNP tests. They use their prediction to tell them where to start testing. Depending on the number of levels below your predicted Haplogroup they'll offer a "Backbone" test or a "Deep Clade" test. If you look at http://www.isogg.org/tree/ISOGG_HapgrpR08.html you'll see how complex the R1b portion of the Y-DNA Haplogroup Tree 2008 is. Now to answer the question: kit 36906 had a Backbone SNP test and kits 8586 and 84479 had Deep Clade SNP test.
