I just wondered if there were any Powells on this list who lived near enough in NC that they could find some land records on my Eaton Powell for me. I live in CA and am not planning on going there in the near future. I was given the information that Eaton Powell sold his land to William Powell, Sr before he left to move to Montgomery Co. TN. This is probably his uncle, William Powell, brother to Aaron Powell..... Deed 23, p. 150 EATON POWELL and wife HOLLY of Halifax Co. to Wm POWELL, SR of same. 21 Jan 1815. $146 1/2. 65 acres on both sides of Great Quankey, joining Bagby, Day, Fulgum, Wit Davis Bagby Thomas Martin, Ely Hale May Ct 1815 also Halifax Co., NC Deed Book, Deed 23, p. 242 EATON POWELL and wife HOLLY of Halifax Co. to Wm POWELL, SR of same. 19 Oct 1815 87 Pounds. 87 acres on both sides of Great Quantley, joining Bagby, Day, Fulgum, Wit Davis Bagby, Andrew Hail Quantley Creek, Lane ? Moody, Wm Powell. Wit: Peter Avent, Richard N. Smith Feb Ct 1816. This supports that the oldest son, Benjamin Eaton Powell was born in Halifax Co. NC 10 Mar 1815. Perhaps they waited until he was old enough to travel before they left. I've been told there was more than one group that left that area to move to Montgomery Co. TN. The earliest record I have of him in TN is a notation in 1818 that he was on a road crew building a road from Clarksville to Palmyra. His son, William C. Powell was born Feb 10, 1818 and always stated TN as his birthplace. I also found in a book about Clarksville, TN that two orphaned girls begged "The Powells" to take them along when they left NC. They sure could be the ones I found living with them on the 1820 census in Clarksville. I never knew who those older girls were before I read that. Thanks, Linda Garrett Livermore, CA
