    1. Re: [POWELL-DNA] Joseph Powell born 1760 Pennsylvania
    2. That John G. Powell is from my line - Bob Powell - DNA bottom of our listing - I show TN. He appears in the Hardin County, TN 1820 Ancestry census listing with his assumed sons Hezekiah and James with single Powel and another son Archibald with a double Powell. We generally use 1764 as his date of birth. He is in the 1830 Shelby County, TN census with Archibald and Hezekiah. William Robert Powell, 1811, TN, is an assumed son also. We have deeds from Hickman County, TN, that mention John G. Powell, and Archibald Powell. I personally think that there are other members of the family in TN at this time. Most of this line moves to TX in 1832, 1834, and 1850. The only known branch remaining in TN is the Scott Powell. It continues to amaze me that so many Powells are in the same place at the same time, totally unrelated. This particular branch has close relationships with the Parkers, McAlpin, Williamson, Smith and other families. James & Archibald came to Texas with Silas Parker and other Parkers. William Robert Powell rode with Robert McAlpin Williamson and Sam Houston. Robert McAlpin Williamson's sister married a George Powell. The Parkers were in Georgia in the 1800-1810 time frame, and in TN in the 1810-1820 time frame. 3. Your point about Powells in the same place and unrelated amazes me as well. Until my dna results came in, I would have bet a lot that we were related -- my forbear Elisha Smith Powell was in McNairy County Tn at the same time as John (g-son of John G) and Elisha's son lived and is buried less than fifty miles from John in Texas. His father Hezakiah is reputed to have the middle name Smith, as does my Elisha. Elisha Smith Powell married a Murry and Murrys and McAlphins were related by marriage. But, dna squelched that "logic": my line is NC-16. All of that "logic" apparently has the same meaning about kinship as our common first name. Oh well. 1. Re: [POWELL-DNA] Joseph Powell born 1760 Pennsylvania
    2. To Bob Powell, Austin and Bob Powell, Houston From: Hank Wenzler, Katy, TX My first cousin, John Mark Powell, #111772, AL-8, and myself, are Powell descendents. My Mother, Edna Powell, b. 1908 , Greer County, OK is descended from William David Powell, b. about 1815 in SC, married in 1851 to Amanda Brooks in Macon Co, AL. They lived in Macon and Jefferson counties in AL before moving to TX in 1873 to McLennan county (Waco). They were there until William David, Jr. moved to Greer co., OK about 1890. His father, Wm. David, Sr. followed in about 1896 and died there in 1901. He is buried in the First Street Cemetery in Waco along with his wife, Amanda. I had hoped to find a connection via DNA (John Mark Powell) with a Powell line but thus far no luck. The only evidence we have is that Wm. David, Sr. reported on the censuses that he was born in SC. He further stated that his father was from Ireland and his mother in VA. No names, locations or other clues have been discovered.
