    3. Kit 251728n matches a lot of the R1b1a2 kit.  Becky plans to upgrade soon but is hoping for some help before then.  Please take time to check her information.   Thanks. Carolina, then to Jones County, Ga.(possibly Houston County first).  He died Dec. 28, 1858, buried in Powell/Byrd Cemetery in Jones Cty.  He was married to Catherine Sarah Wilkinson born 1782, died circa 1850 and buried in same cemetery.  Her parents were Elisha and Sarah Waters  Wilkinson. Sarah Waters Wilkinson was also buried in same cemetery.  Their children were: . Anne, born 1802 in Virginia or N.Carolina, married  John Byrd 7-17-1829 in Jones Cty.   Carolyn, born 1808  in Va. or Ga,  married Gilford Sikes 12-13-1838 in Jones Cty.   John, Jr, born 1810 (or 1817) in Va. or Ga. married (1) Mary Hawkins 1-29-1839 (2)Mary Brim 2-26-1852, Jones Cy.   (These first three  had different states for birth and John different ages in later census')   Sarah, born 1817 in Jones Cty, married George Byrd 8-8-1839 in Jones Cty, Ga   Pleasant, born 1819, Jones Cty, married Emily Crockett Mary (?), born (?), married Benjamin D. White 3-28-1832, moved to Houston Cty, Ga.   There is a condensed version of my present tree in my son's Kit 251728 which seems to be wrong unless there was an adoption somewhere and stories that are in my expanded tree makes that entirely possible but I have no idea that could be found. I have had professional researchers in Virginia and Georgia, Natl. Archives,Jones Cty. records, The Macon Library in Bibb Cty which is next to Jones and has all the Jones Cty and Virginia records and no one has come up with anything about my John's father.  I got my continuing line from Silas Lucas "Powell Book on the Powells of Va. and  the South".  I felt I had the right lines because I could find nothing to deny it until my son's dna indicated  it must be wrong. We are going to upgrade  the Ydna from 12 to 67.  Hope that helps but in the meantime if anyone has the above John  anywhere in their tree, I would appreciate hearing from you.  Many thanks   Becky Powell

War records p. 5 reads:        Living children of Francis Powell, deceased:  Mary Powell, Joseph Powell and Elizabeth fBurdett of Wilkes County, Georgia and Nancy Jackson of Chambers County, Alabama, Sarah Wortham nd Caroline Wells and Benjamin Powell of Meriweather County, Georgia and Thomas Powell of Talbort County, Georgia are the only living children of Francis Powell, deceased.         Francis Powell born in Amherst County, VA and served under General George Washington and Francis Powell removed himself to Wilkes Co., GA until his death over 16 years ago; and said wife of Francis Powell having died previously.  Date of document:  28 March 1856. Signed, Jospeh T. Burdett, JP of Wilkes Co., GA.    Your Francis Powell Rev. War file no.:  31912 in War Department, dated 7 June 1832.    Txs, Dinah S. 1. [POWELL-DNA] June Powell Orton's "book"
    2. My apologies to anyone who has replied to me with another subject in the "subject" line - I sometimes don't get to my messages for days on end, and sometimes only look at the subject line as I prioritize what I'm going to read. Also, my apologies for misleading people on June's "book". She worked on the Powells, etc., for many years and intended to publish her work, but she was taken critically ill with a brain tumor very unexpectedly and did not live long enough to finish what she had started. All of her material is with her daughter, Kathy Armstrong of Cedar Rapids, IA, who has said she does not intend to put it out to the public, but that I am welcome to do so if I wish. The "books" that I have are all Xerox copies bound with a spiral that June did herself. She sent one to me and a couple others to the late Ilene Jones, with whom I was also in correspondence. Ilene had time, before her death, to send me two of those. The other copies, as far as I know, are in the Adair County Library, Adair County, Kentucky. (I have not been able to confirm this.) I am happy to answer any queries as best I can. With regard to Larry's inquiry, p. 18: Jane Powell b 1907 Chapel Hill TN p. 74: same Jane p. 88: Elias Powell Sanders md Elizabeth A. Fletcher, dau of James S. Fletcher and JANE POWELL Fletcher on Apr 1854. p. 102: Jane Powell b 1807 Adair Co, KY P. 104: same as on pg 88 & 102. p. 105: same p. 110: same p. 114: same Those are the only Janes mentioned in June's "Ambrose Powell" book. In that same book, regarding Lynn's query for James b. 1798, there is only one James for which I do not have any dates: James Aubrey Powell md Mary Helen Jones. I looked at the 30 mentioned James (some duplication) in her book and none of the others would have been born near 1798. I do not find any Jane or James in the other books who would be who you are looking for. 3. Stacey, We thought when you signed up that Thos. Jefferson Powell was likely related to other Powell's in Rabun County GA. Those Powell's were sons of Robert and Sarah Hervey Powell. Robert was a son John and Mary O'Neal Powell. There is a kit (181509 - VA-26) that descends from Robert and Sarah through their son, Almon. Almon was a brother of Edley and Tilman. Your DNA results do not match VA-26, and so I think you have to conclude that Jefferson was not in that family. There is a kit (181509 - VA-26) that descends from Robert and Sarah through their son, Almon. Almon was a brother of Edley and Tilman. Your DNA results do not match VA-26, and so I think you have to conclude that Jefferson was not in that family. 3. The James Powell that is the great gg grandfather was born Sept 9, 1759, in Pendleton District, South Carolina. He married Rebecca Bynum born 1770 Orange County , North Carolina. She died Feb 4, 1850, Jefferson County, Alabama. James Powell died Dec26, 1854 in Blount. County, Alabama. He left a will and his son left behind a record of the parents of James Powell and great grandparents. The problem has been that we have not found other documents that tell us about these people. I hope this makes sense to and is helpful. 3. Hi Jim My kit # is 131090 I have a request from a female "Z"who suggests that her Grandmother "X"born 1928? And illigetimate and put up for adoption. The named biological?mother was my Aunt, next youngest to my Dad We do know that my Aunt had a daughter "B"born 1930 also out of wedlock. "B" has three children "C", "D" & "E" A - my Aunt (deceased) B - daughter of "A" C (male), D (male) & E(female) - children of "B" X - female in question (deceased) Y - daughter (deceased) of "X" Z - daughter of "Y" and person making inquiry X states that she has adoption record stating "A" as the mother, no father named. She has already provided me with the unusual but correct name of my Aunt. Z has offered to forward a copy of adoption record, but in the meantime I'm looking for other solutions. Is there any way of making a match or confirming any biological relationship between "B" and "Z?" Or C, D & E to Z I also have a suspicion that Z is after some sort of financial arrangement since B has lots of money and she is well known inher community Thanks for your interest Bev Powell.
