Lee and Ed, Each project has a general fund set up by FTDNA and anyone can donate to it. Go to http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Powell/ and scroll down below the ISOGG seal to find the link. Donations can be made by credit card or invoice. In this case we would need the donations to be made by credit card to be sure we had the funds before the sale ends. My preferred way of doing this is to have the kit sent to the person to provide the sample and have them return it. Lee or Ed should place the order now. Once the kit has been returned and the funds are in place I notify FTDNA to apply money from the fund to the kit. This way we don't pay for the kit and then not get it back. If the order is placed using this link the person is automatically added to the Powell project http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?code=E35819&Group=Powell FTDNA does not dun anyone to pay for a kit. They don't send it to the lab until they have there money so they are only out postage and the cost of the kit. In 2010 I abstracted a Powell research paper and sent it to anyone interested and asked that those who found it helpful/interesting make a donation to the fund. There is still $30 in the fund which I will donate to you effort if we can get enough added to pay for the Y-DNA37 kit. I'll keep anyone interested informed of the balance if they send me their e-mail address. Unless someone asks to be kept in the loop the rest of the messages on this topic will be sent to Lee and Ed. Lab Tour - To see what I saw when I took the lab tour at FTDNA got to the bottom of http://www.genebygene.com/ Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! A fellow named Ed Corlew called me today and told me of a relative of his named Charles Paxton Powell, Jr, living in Hopkinsville, Ky, very near to where my GGfather lived in the same time period. This is interesting because of the name Paxton. My Great Grandfather was Dr James Paxton Powell, and this is the second time in history I have heard the name Paxton. My question to you Jim is, do we have any funds available to help someone like this out? This would be a super time to test him (with the discounted price). Would you please let me and Ed know what might be available. We are trying to see if indeed Charles Paxton Powell might be a fellow "T", or not. Ed Corlew's email is: egc153@juno.com Would you (and anyone else on here that might have any input) please get back to Ed and I and let us know is help is available and what we would need to do to get Charles Paxton Powell tested to at least the 37 level? Sarah Taylor and Robert Powell had a son (possibly two, one of whom died in infancy) named John Powell -- possibly your John Powell. I know nothing more at this point about him, or his descendants. I can, however, offer the following: Robert Powell's brother, Ambrose Powell, was quite prominent in Culpeper, and was a member of Dr. Thomas Walker's exploratory expedition into Kentucky in 1750. His g-grandson (through his daughter, Ann Powell Hill) was Confederate general Ambrose Powell Hill. Ambrose's eldest son, Major Robert Powell, served in the Revolution and afterwards settled in Kentucky, near Columbia. He was an original (founding) member of the Society of the Cincinnati, and married Ann West. I'm in the process of remarking the grave of Ann West and Robert Powell (my g4 grandparents) in Danville, Kentucky, and we hope to have an appropriate ceremony at a family get together this summer. If not you can sign in to your kit and check out the prices. Although it is not mentioned anywhere I was told today that they have dropped the transfer fee that was being charged to move samples from Arizona to Houston. All samples have been moved. I sent the last Saturday and Sunday at the FTDNA conference in Houston and toured the lab today. To say the least I was impressed.
