Kit N87707, a transfer from the National Geographic project, has been added. Haplogroup R1b1a2. Hopefully he will be upgrading and adding addition information on his Powell line. Speaking of upgrading, if you have tested less than 67 markers you should consider upgrading during the sale which will end Dec. 31, 2012 at 11:59 PM CST (Houston, Texas time). I hope all of you have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year filled with new DNA results and matches. Thanks, Jim--- this certainly helps understand the question of how closely related folks are with certain genetic distances - a concept I have struggled with. I have sent this to several of my other families. Like most Souther families whose ancestors took those lands deals in GA early on and who moved far form their original homes the separations of the 1830's and 1840's leave classic brickwalls. Evry little piece of infoan devery little possible connections has to be run down. Thanks for your support. I am a descendant of Elmina Powell, daughter of William H Powell who married James A Dendy to Tallapoosa County AL in the 1842. If you have an Ancestry.com account look at this 1910 census (search for Violate Powell in North Carolina) http://search.ancestry.com/iexec?htx=View&r=an&dbid=7884&iid=4449372_00225&fn=Violate&ln=Powell&st=r&ssrc=&pid=196149900 And this 1900 census (search for Vilett Powell in North Carolina) http://search.ancestry.com/iexec?htx=View&r=an&dbid=7602&iid=004117864_00664&fn=Vilett&ln=Powell&st=r&ssrc=&pid=38426790 Notice the Aiken family - based on what I have been given Archibald Federal Powell married Mary Ann Aiken and Tyra Rickman Aiken married Arsula Powell. Children of Myles Clayton Aiken and Margaret L. Galloway. Arsula Powell was the daughter of James Monroe Powell and Louise Galloway. I am looking for descendants of these families who are will to take a Family Finder test from FTDNA if I can get the tests paid for. I haven't asked FTDNA to cover the cost but I will if I can find people to test. Thanks. I was going to say that there are several trees for this line as I have looked at them several times thinking they could be connected to our Powell's. Both Galloway and Dillards had connections to our Powell's. But the Tree's aren't consistant and several of the researchers haven't taken advantage of the census records. Some people have Archibald Federal Powell as Rosemond Arkelles "Keel" Powell's father but Fred Augustus Powell was listed on others and on an official listing. But then this may be someone assuming the Fed was a typo that it should have been Fred A. Oh and several people left out Archibalds first marriage to Bertha Galloway. Which of the ones who show the marriage show a male son from this marriage. TTYL~Diane

I want to thank you all for the information about Lewis Powell. Very interesting. I feel information sharing like this leads us all to clues that helps answers some family mysteries. I wish a Merry Christmas to all, Larry S. Powell 229909
George Cader Powell married his second cousin, Patience Powell. Maybe that will help, since Patience Powell's genealogy is known. I think Hannah may have some information about it. Lewis' family DNA is in the R1b1a2. Two of his gg-nephews are kit #'s 45375 & 60753. If you get the book on Lewis by Betty Ownsbey you will see that she has worked with Lewis' family and has documented his life from an early child until his death. Sharon Powell Tate
Just a note of interest on the subject of Lewis Powell (aka Lewis Paine) and Secretary of State William Henry Seward My paternal grandmother was a Powell from the Gold Group - NC 4 (not sure if Lewis Thornton Powell is in this group or not. Do any of you know?) My paternal grandfather was a Seward ( I don't know of any DNA tests from this branch of the Seward family.) Wouldn't it be an odd twist of fate that both of my grandparents DNA traced back to the same Lewis Powell (Lewis Paine) and William Henry Seward? And, one more thing........my dad's name was Powell Seward. Good morning, David. In her book about Sally Hemings, Annette Gordon-Reed mentions a George Powell and Company which was a slave importing company. Do you happen to know whether this is the same as the George Powell you mention?
