Hi Susan, I hope he agrees!! If privacy is an issue with him you may want to tell him you can purchase the kit and apply for the test using your name or the name of the most distant ancestor Larkin Powell. You may have some ideas of which line he could be related to. But I can tell you there have been many surprises in the DNA Projects. I had looked at this line as possibly being connected to our group in the project. Our line VA>NC>Pendleton Dist,/Pickens CO., SC then North Eastern GA or TN now all the way to CA. We are the Lime Green (2nd group listed) at Family Tree DNA. But I think the T group (first group listed) and possibly another group may expect Larkin to match their line. Family Tree DNA when ordering is a good choice because you can then add the results by hand to Ancestry if you have a tree for free. So you have a chance to have matches from both testers for one fee. As you may know at family tree DNA you can click on any underlined kit numbers to see 3 or 4 generations of the line. Also Jim has the most distant ancestor and their locations listed at the very bottom of the page. Hope this is helpful. Oh and Ron's Clay Powell is in our Lime Green group. ~Diane ----- Original Message ----- From: Susan Gillespie <susang@summergrove.net> To: powell-dna@rootsweb.com Cc: Sent: Tuesday, February 12, 2013 8:54 AM Subject: Re: [POWELL-DNA] Clay Powell (Larkin/Abraham Lovely) The Larkin I am searching for was born c.1807 in SC. There is a copy on www.abebooks.com for $125. But I would just look it up in your local library or get them to get it on library loan. I don't think it is worth those prices. This line was living at one time in Isle of Wight Co. VA, but was not connected to the Isle of Wight Powells that go back to Thomas Powell as Lucas states. In fact, this William Powell moved to Isle of Wight Co. from Gloucester Co. and his wife's name was Elizabeth Dobson. This lines up with why I don't match the other Powells who do descend from Thomas (ya think?) So, just don't take everything in this book as gospel, and I agree that we have much more available sources than he did when he wrote this book.
