Where is the connection with Nicholas Powell of NY and our dna group. The Nicholas that settled in Gallatin and his son who settled in Wayne Co, Illinois are from our dna group but this Nicholas was born in N.C. There are a lot of Nicholas's but how do you connect this bible with our dna group other then the name Nicholas. Mary, You might check with the DAR in Washington, D. C. They collect bible pages and consolidate several groups and then bind them and put the books in their library. The Library of Congress also collects bible pages. I always make colored photo copies of all title pages and pages with genealogical information and send them to each place. However, way back in years people did not have access to copy machines and perhaps they might have sent the originals to either group -- more than likely the DAR. There does not have to be a DAR Patriot included in the bible record for them to bind them and place them in their library. They collect genealogical information on any family. They have one of the best genealogical libraries in the country. And unfortunately they might have just given those pages to another family member and they have been lost over the years, or are tucked away in somebody's drawer, basement, or attic somewhere. The reason I'd like to know is so that I can verify the spelling of the ames; were they written by a contemporary or by the one of the next eneration? (There are discrepancies, for example, in how the current eneration spells the name from what is in the bible.) If anyone should come across Powell family bible records that include those ames, I'd appreciate being notified. If this is the case it is from Nicholas Powell line who settled first in Gallatin Co., Ill and his son Nicholas Jr and a couple other sons went to Wayne Co., Ill. I have my info packed away as we have moved and I will dig if I have to. The testor was a John I believe. Tamera did the DNA test on my Aunt's nephew and I really don't know much about this line. I thought this was the correct Nicholas but Tamera stated that the kit # that was listed for the descendent of Nicholas Powell is not a DNA match. My aunts line does come from a Nicholas and John but I don't know these lines well at all. Maybe someone else can enlighten us as to the correct family for the descendents of the Bible from 1873 of Nicholas Powell . Sherri and Tamara- It was posted earlier that Kit#210767 NC-41 is indeed a 37 marker match to our lime green group(powelltracers). There is no info availabel when you click on the kit #, but Sherri sent an email to us earlier that it is the line of Nicholas Powell b. 1765 d. 1845. Sherri stated she got the dna sample from her aunt's cousin John Powell. Sherri could you check and see if indeed Kit#210767 is of Nicholas line? I have the bible that lists vital statistics about Austin Powell and his two families. He was born 1829 in Adair Co., KY and died Jan 1898 in Marshall Co TN. The bible gives details about his 20 children by two marriages (1) Sarah Adeline Robinson and (2) Emily James Thomson): Granville Coleman Melvine Elizabeth Mary Ella Andrew Jackson Ida Sara Adeline Henrietta Callie Jane Mary Emily Camilla Nannie Betty Austin Thompson William Henry Flavius Milton Pinkney John Eris Lillian Emily Monica Minnie Jimmie Ethel Gipson Day The bible was given (in Tennessee) to my mother by, I believe, one of the above or her daughter. Before she received it, a genealogist had removed the title pages but had enclosed a typewritten affidavit that covered the names within. There is no actual signature nor is there any name attached to the affidavit. I do not know WHERE these pages may be at present time; I imagine some library somewhere. I would very much like to ascertain the source of the bible. It is written in one hand until it came to me - at which time, not knowing what I was doing, I added more family information. The reason I'd like to know is so that I can verify the spelling of the names; were they written by a contemporary or by the one of the next generation? (There are discrepancies, for example, in how the current generation spells the name from what is in the bible.) Can you get me the lineage that has been proven from our DNA test so I can give it to my aunt. She is really surprised that she doesn't match him. But know we took the guesswork out of it though science.
