Social Security #: 267033230 Gender: Male Birth Date: 20 Apr 1912 Birth Place: Florida Death Date: 15 Jan 1970 Death Place: Los Angeles This suggest three actions to me: (1) order a copy of the Social Security application (2) check for an obit (surely there is someone on the list who can suggest a library to contact) (3) if you can find the funeral home check with them - they might be able to provide additional family information. 3. Kits B1216 & 257868 have been added with 37 and 67 markers.  These kit are for Young brothers, but they have several 37 marker matches with some of our Powell kits.  They are in Haplogroup I2b1.   They have told me, "The name of most distant ancestor is Cleo Young, born in Alcorn County, Mississippi on 16 Jun 1907.  Cleo Young died in Jackson, TN in 1968. We do not have any proof of any Powell ancestry but we believe that Cleo Young’s father was a Powell. I suspect it is William Hennon Powell born in Rienzi, Alcorn, Mississippi September 1872.   If you have William Hennon Powell in your family please contact these men.  Their e-mail address can be found in your match list if you match them.  You can post here or you can send me a message to forward to them.   Thanks. 3. Most of our members have tested through FTDNA.  I accept Y-DNA from most companies, including Ancestry.com, if it is Y-DNA from a male Powell.  Many, out not all of our Y-DNA members have uploaded their Y-DNA to YSearch.   I have tested with 23andMe and have uploaded to Gedmatch I don't know if they are accepting data from AncestryDNA or not.   Has a male Powell from your line had a Y-DNA test from any company? 1. Re: [POWELL-DNA] Beneficiary Information

    3. POWELLs, Here is my 2 cents on the subject. It surely would be nice if the person replacing us after we are gone (the beneficiary), is someone interested in putting money into the kit for upgrades when needed, for markers & SNPs. I am overstepping to make a suggestion, but it seems obvious to me to recommend that each set of POWELLs do the 23andMe test while it is only $99 + S&H to determine one's deep clade, then confirm (test) that SNP at FTDNA & start the downstream (more recent) SNP testing in one's deep clade haplogroup project here at FTDNA, unless your feel inclined to do WTY for $950 or Nat. Geog. Geno 2.0 for $199.95. I understand FTDNA is no longer offering their $139 deep clade test. After the 1st SNP ($39), each SNP test is only $29. Then we could see how close of kin our various sets of Powells (& other surnames) are kin to each other, i.e. how RELATIVELY close of kin. Ancestry.com is just as cheap as 23andMe, but does it give one one's Y-SNP? If so where do I find it. I have done my autosomal at all 3 companies. As far as I know, 23andMe is the only company of the 3 to give one one's deep clade SNP. Autosomal testing (e.g. 23andMe & Ancestry.Com's new test & FTDNA's Family Finder) is what I do to make sure I match my various Y-DNA DNA donors i.e. get DNA evidence that they are kin to me. For instance my MRCA with my POWELL DNA donor is my 3-greats grandfather Caleb POWELL Sr., since my 2-greats POWELL ancestor is a daughter of this Caleb POWELL Sr. & thus I lose the POWELL-Y because my 2-greats POWELL is a female. So my donor is my 4th cousin (if we are in the same generation). I would think all your POWELL kin via females would appreciate having their POWELL Y-DNA donor having the autosomal test done to check that their own autosomal test matches his autosomal test. One can download one's million SNP autosomal test results from 23andMe.Com & for $89 paid to FTDNA, one can upload the 23andMe results to FTDNA thereby having a Family Finder result also for no more than the sale price of Family Finder which is $199 on sale. Plus with 23andMe we get the 245 "Health" [& traits] Reports & probably about a thousand matches & your mtDNA deep clade & % Neanderthal. I am expecting FTDNA to have a $50 sale on the uploads of results from 23andMe to FTDNA. -- James W.
