    3. We are not, and I truly believe this, from the line out of Isle of Wight. We are from the line that comes out of Gloucester and York Co Va. There were two Thomas's and two Williams in Brunswick Co. Va. One in Capt Walls area and one in Capt Edwards are. The one in Capt Walls area is believed to be Thomas out of Isle of Wight. The others are believed to come from York Co. The Thomas that died 1757 in Brunswick is of our group but not from Isle of Wight and I would bet money on that one. The one that had will 1757 had sons mentioned. Charles* , John, William, Thomas, Douglas and James. Daughters Ann, Sarah, Elizabeth and Mary Green Powell. I believe Douglas was probably the one in southern NC. I think someone has taken claim to him in another group but they could be wrong. 28 Feb 1754 Thomas Powell deeded 261 acres to son Charles and 23 Jun 1756 Thomas deeded son James 261 acres. In 1772 James Powell and wife Alsey of Orange Co., NC deed Thomas Powell of Brunswick Co. NC 260 acres on north side of Fountains Creek, adjoining William Powell , In 1769 Charles Powell and wife Elizabeth deeded 261 acres to Henry Mounger all parties of Brunswick Co. Va. No will or estate settlement was found for a Thomas Powell who died in Brnswick Co, Va in 1750. At same time a will for Thomas Powell was probated 1 Oct 1750 in Isle of Wight Co. Va. and proved 06 Feb 1752. 3. I am a member of Haplogroup I1 (lime green group). We have group members who have a solid research trail to Douglas Powell, Jr and his father Douglas Sr. Included are kits #166425, 174655, 249237, match with no kit#, and trail that leads to Charles Powell who died 1818 Edgefield SC-who may be a son of Douglas. There is a Douglas listed as a son of Thomas Powell who left will 1757 in Brunswick Co Va. This Thomas is thought to be of the Isle of Wight Powell line. His grandfather was Thomas Powell I, the immigrant. The Powell DNA Surname group shows kit# 33109, 24725, as linking to William Powell, brother to Thomas who had will 1757, and being Haplogroup R1b1a2; another of this line is kit#57355 and is R1b1a2. Then there is kit#107720 which links to this Isle of Wight group and is in Haplogroup T1. Rev. Lucas in his book “Powell Families of Virginia and the South” has Douglas as the son of Thomas Powell(1757) and enumerates some of Douglas descendants, which match up with what some of our members have. Lucas himself admitted the Isle of Wight family was hard to research. Our group I1 task is if Douglas sr is not the son of Thomas Powell (1757), then we have to find the correct Douglas. One other thing that complicates the research is that we have traced several kin back to Chatham Co NC, where some of Thomas (1757) descendants settled. Welcome to any thoughts or insights concerning this line of research. Dickey Powell

    3. Larry,   Yes!  I think this is a very good suggestion.  Each member with a Powell kit should include their kit number and their Powell paternal line Haplogroup.   My Powell cousin and I are both R1b1a2.  That DOES NOT suggest that we share a common paternal line. (1) we both need to SNP test much deeper to have the real Haplogroup (2) at 67 markers we are a genetic distance of 26.   And to answer your question (which I deleted), no, I still have a few left! I am also a "T" member of FtDNA in the Powell database. I am kit # 107720. We need to work on this Green Powell thing. He and his family grew up and lived in the same small Texas town that I grew up in. My father was William Lee Powell, and forever he said we were NOT kin to the Green Powell's of Powelldale, Tx which is a suburb of Kopperl, Tx in Bosque Co. However, I recently came across some information that shows that I am indeed kin to this Green Powell. I am interested to know if anyone in the Bosque Co Green Powell line has done a DNA test and if so, what were the results? I am a "T" and lots of these so-called kinfolks are R1B1 types. Jim Barrett is very well up on this "T"/R1B1 thing. Maybe some bastardy, adoption, or other confusing use of DNA in the old days!! Jerry Powell of Baylor University is one of these R1B1 line that claims to have come from some of the "T" ancestors. I am certainly no master of DNA stuff, but I am very confused as are several of the people who study our line. Pat Springer is a fellow "T" member, and she is kin to this Green Oliver. I have long contended that Pat and I are VERY CLOSELY kin, but we so far can not find a common thread. What is your kit #?? My Powell line came from SC/NC area near Rutherford/York area (the old Tryon area). Would welcome a phone call if you have the time to discuss this stuff. 972-226-6684. I live in Garland, Tx near Dallas. Thanks. Cousin Lee ps anyone else who can shed some light on this is welcome to send any info you might have. ________________________________ From: Dan Powell <danpowell@prodigy.net> To: "powell-dna@rootsweb.com" <powell-dna@rootsweb.com> Cc: "powell-dna@rootsweb.com" <powell-dna@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, June 6, 2013 5:57 PM Subject: Re: [POWELL-DNA] Green Oliver Powell of Hall, Walker, Dade, Ga., and Calhoun Co. 3. Possible brother to Charles and may be the older Thomas that shows up in Chatham. It's like my George. He fits in there. I think he may have been the Henry. He got his 150 acres about a year after James. Now James later got another 150 acres of the estate. I think he could have possibly bought out his younger brother Charles who apparently went to Ga. Isn't this fun. -----Original Message----- From: Deanna Veitenheimer Sent: Saturday, June 08, 2013 5:28 PM To: powell-dna@rootsweb.com Subject: [POWELL-DNA] Based on Jeffrey's work concerning Charles property, mapped etc. lime green I1 group I think we can say that Charles, d.1776 Chatham County, NC. 3. Keep in mind that there were two Charles Powells in 1800 Chatham. One Charles Powell was age 16-25 with two males age 0-10; this is the one probably who died in Clarke Co GA 1805, and the father of Enoch, Akins and Joice. The other is listed as Charles Powel age 26-44 with 2 males 0-10, and a female over age 45, which could be Charles' mother Elizabeth living with him. When Charles died, there are is a deed that mentions "the orphans of Charles Powell", indicating that some of his children were under age 21. The Charles Powel(listed now as Powell) is in 1810 census, age 26-44 with 3 males 0-10, 2 males 10-15, 1 male 26-44. The Charles Powell who died 1777 could be the father of either one of these Charles Powells. It is just my feeling that the oldest one was the son of Charles who died 1777; that would leave us looking for the father of the younger Charles, who died in Clarke Co Ga. There are deeds in Chatham that are witnessed by or mention a Charles that indicate that he was born earlier than 1774, hence would be the one age 26-44 in 1800 census. Concerning the 3 Aug 1777 deed, the Thomas Powell of Brunswick who was a curator of Charles estate, was a brother of Charles who died 1777. Their father was Thomas Powell sr who died 1757 in Brunswick. Brewer connection: James, the son of Charles died 1777, was married to Frances. I found where Henry Brewer had a daughter Frances, b@1752. He also had a daughter Alice(Ales) b @1759. James Powell, brother to Charles 1777, was married to Alse Cotton, daughter of Alexander Spotswood Cotton. I plan on a post soon that may help or may muddy the waters!
