Caroline Interesting is right. Agree with your Thomas & Wm Penn info. Thomas departed w/3 sons, 1 died enroute, another was later born. He had two wives, names unk to me. Wish I could find some Powell, a 'confirmed' descendant of that Thomas and see his DNA. Interesting point, I have 2 Smith H. Powell's one born in 1814, and one in 1858, both in Lenoir, NC. Both were in the George Powell b. 1789, son of Elias Jr. b. 1854 line. There are also 2 Elijah's and 2 Elisha's in the same line. To Bob Powell, Austin and Bob Powell, Houston From: Hank Wenzler, Katy, TX My first cousin, John Mark Powell, #111772, AL-8, and myself, are Powell descendents. My Mother, Edna Powell, b. 1908 , Greer County, OK is descended from William David Powell, b. about 1815 in SC, married in 1851 to Amanda Brooks in Macon Co, AL. They lived in Macon and Jefferson counties in AL before moving to TX in 1873 to McLennan county (Waco). They were there until William David, Jr. moved to Greer co., OK about 1890. His father, Wm. David, Sr. followed in about 1896 and died there in 1901. He is buried in the First Street Cemetery in Waco along with his wife, Amanda. I had hoped to find a connection via DNA (John Mark Powell) with a Powell line but thus far no luck. The only evidence we have is that Wm. David, Sr. reported on the censuses that he was born in SC. He further stated that his father was from Ireland and his mother in VA. No names, locations or other clues have been discovered. I want to thank everyone who has taken advantage of the Upgrade Special from FTDNA. In the Barrett Project we have six upgrades either at the lab or to be sent to the lab Wednesday. In the Powell Project we have 17 kit with upgrades either at the lab or to be sent to the lab Wednesday. Several of the Powell upgrades were ordered before the special. If you are thinking about an upgrade but haven't done it yet remember that the 25% discount special will end Monday. I have been a FTDNA customer since 2002 and this is the first time I have seen them offer a upgrade discount. Thanks again. Ha Ha, A typical Powell thing for us, we buy high and sell low! I just upgraded four people from 37 to 67 the first of June at $99 each! I wonder if other Powells do this? As a result, the size of our database is unmatched and has achieved critical mass, even allowing adoptees or descendants of adoptees to find their biological paternal lines, including the surname of the original family. In fact, more that 30% of the people who have come to us in search of their original paternal line have already succeeded in their endeavor. Note that genetic matches allow people to find their biological lines rather than a specific individual. We have made tremendous progress, but we feel that we can do more. If you have tested 12 or 25 markers, an upgrade to 37 or more markers could provide the relevant match that someone has been waiting for. It may also give you the match that you have been waiting for. Family Tree DNA wants to help and be part of this effort. We have decided that from June 20th to June 30th, we will reduce all our Y-DNA upgrade prices, and on average the reduced prices will be about 25% lower than the standard upgrade price. There is no need to contact our staff to receive this upgrade pricing. Our prices will be adjusted in the system accordingly. As always, we appreciate your continued support.
