    1. [POWELL-DNA] Allen Powell SR 8 sons migrating from SC to Cass and Gordon Co., GA
    2. diane branam
    3.   Hi Chris,   I agree with Allen SR. being the father of your Allen.   As I mentioned in the following, Allen starts 1820 Pendleton Dist, SC with 3 sons, 1830 Pickens,SC with 8 sons and arrives in 1840 Cass Co.,GA with 6. Seeing the DNA Results for William M. 1805 SC. I am assuming William M. and Sampson are the sons of Allen left behind and that he arrived in SC before 1805.      In 1820 Josias Powel, Pickens Co, SC, 1 son. 1830 Josias has his 3 sons.  In 1840 Josias 1789 NC still has his 3 sons living with him but had stayed behind in Pickens Co., SC.  We know George M. Powell is Josia's son and have assumed Ashley  1820 SC to also belong to Josias.     Since we are only missing one son for Josias and we know that James Dison (my line)  and Josiah S. Powell were brothers I am giving them both to Allen SR. as sons.  Also James Dison and Josiah S.'s father in law Hosea Butler migrated with Allen to Cass Co., GA and then in 1850 Allen SR is living next door to Hosea Butler.   Allen 1822 SC is in Cherokee Co., GA for the 1850 census nearer his in laws before heading to Gordon Co., GA in time for the 1860 census.   Sampson doesn't make it to Gordon Co., GA until 1880 but then is right next door to Cyrus also an assumed son of Allen SR..   TTYL~Diane

    1. [POWELL-DNA] 67 marker match probability of relationship percentages
    2. Chris Powell
    3. FTDNA gives these percentages for a 67 marker match:   1 generation is 43.47% 2 generations is 68.05% 3 generations is 81.94% 4 generations is 89.79% 5 generations is 94.23% 6 generations is 96.74% 7 generations is 98.16% 8 generations is 98.96% 9 generations is 99.41% 10 generations is 99.67% 11 generations is 99.81% 12 generations is 99.89% 13 generations is 99.94% 14 generations is 99.97% 15 generations is 99.98% 16 generations is 99.99% 17 generations is 99.99% 18 generations is 100%   The number I find most interesting is the one for five generations.  My kit is #27450.  I match on 67 markers with kit #22967.  In both kits the donor is four generations removed from the earliest known ancestors, William M. Powell born ca1805 and Allen Powell born 1822.  The above gives us a probability of 94.23% that these men are brothers, or to turn it around, a less than 6% chance that they are cousins rather than brothers.  Cyrus Powell (kit #38739)  is also a 67-marker match.   By way of comparison, another descendant of William M. Powell(kit #37082) has two markers out of 67 that are different from kit #22967(and kit # 22969, another William M. Powell descendant).    Allen born 1789 has a son under 16 on the 1820 census, is known to be the father of Mitchell Powell, who is living in the same household as Cyrus in 1850(and is also recorded in the household of John Powell in 1850).  In 1863 Francis Gibbs, acting as administrator of the estate of John Powell, conveyed to Cyrus Powell a piece of land that was originally in Cherokee County but was by that time in Gordon County, in accordance with a decree dated March 28, 1857.  Cyrus was to hold the land in trust for the use and benefit of "Allen Powell during his lifetime & his idiot son Mitchel Powell".   Add in the Stewart connection, and I'm getting more and more convinced that Allen Powell born 1789 is the father of Allen Powell born 1822.   Chris

    3. Bill,   Kit  22139 is in batch 264 along with several of the other upgrades to 67 markers that still haven't been reported.  They all show an estimated results date of 08/18/08.  We all know that that has already passed, but that was an estimated date.  FTDNA doesn't normally leave a hole in the results unless they are having to retest that panel.   The good news is they haven't moved the dates back yet and they (FTDNA) hasn't posted a reason for the delay.   If other project took advantage of the upgrade special the way the Powell group did FTDNA has been overloaded.  I'm really surprised we have gotten as many of the results as we have.   So to answer your question, no I don't have any idea. 1. [POWELL-DNA] Possible link to Gordon county Powells
    2. powbak
    3. Diane, I have been encouraged by your recent communications on the potential link between some of the Gordon county Powells and Fayette county, Alabama. On 8/15 you posted a couple of messages on PowellTracers. You were outlining how Hosea Butler migrated to Fayette county. If I understood you correctly, Hosea followed the Powells from the Pendleton district, then Newberry, then Anderson county, before migrating with Allen Powell to Cass county, and ultimately to Fayette county, AL. You also posted the 1860 census in Fayette county showing that a "J. Powell, age 28," was living in the home of W. B. Strickland. I note that there were 2 other James Powells in that Fayette county census: The first was James (1786 VA), most likely the father of Reuben and Ezekiel by his first marriage to Frances ?, married 18 Jun 1787 in Laurens district. The problem in making this certain, however, is that I have documentation from a relative that states that James (1786 VA) married a second time in Laurens to Mrs. Leanna Arnold. The census for Fayette in 1860 states that this James was living with Martha Powell (1791 SC). If this is the father of Reuben and Ezekiel, he was the son of Benjamin A., and Sarah Bledsoe Powell. The second James Powell (1859) in the 1860 census was the infant son of E.R., and Jane Powell. E.R. Powell is probably Ezekiel, the brother of Reubin. There was another son of James and Frances? Powell named James. A relative said that "Uncle James lived close to the Mississippi line." He was born in Culpepper county, VA, and married Patty Lewis in the Laurens district before migrating with the others to Alabama. I have not been able to find him in a census. Diane, other than Hosea Butler moving with the Powells to Fayette county, how might we link James Dison/Dyson to any of these Powells? Keep in mind that my grandfather said that the Powells in Fayette county were his cousins. Is all of this eventually going to help us identify the parent-ancestors of our Green group? Do you have opinion on who the James Powell (age 28) is who was living with the Stricklands in Fayette county? Thanks so much, Ron

Will try and look into this today, and did you know that we have another person in our group???? 3. One correction here.  The Haplogroup name was changed because of the revised Haplogroup tree.    Only one kit in what is now the T group has been SNP tested.  That is the Haplogroup show in green.  The Haplogroups shown in red have only been predicted.   Thanks.   Jim Barrett - Timpson, TX --- On Thu, 8/21/08, PATRICIA SPRINGER <[email protected]> wrote: From: PATRICIA SPRINGER <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [POWELL-DNA] Our Website To: [email protected], [email protected] Date: Thursday, August 21, 2008, 6:33 AM Hi Lee, I got in touch with Jim Barrett last night about the Haplogroup change. 3. Several of us have been intriqued by the possibility that the Powells who are descended from John, Robert Sr., Benjamen A., James, and Ezekiel Powell are closely related to the Powells that migrated to Gordon County, Georgia and elsewhere. Therefore, I had posted a message on several sites hoping to identify a descendant. I have just heard a gentleman who is related to the Laurens district Powells. I am hopeful that he will be a candidate for DNA. You might recall that my grandfather once told our family that one of the Powells who migrated from Laurens to Fayette county, Alabama, was his cousin. Hopefully, more later . . . ron #93410 (also linked to #109603)
