3. Jim: I'm looking forward to geting my results. I have already met a lot of nice Powell family due to this project notably Pat Springer and April and Robert and Frances who live very close. I hope my results will tie up some loose ends for others as well as myself. After Christmas I'm going to Do some more research. You will probably have to guide me a little through the impact of my results. Thanks Cleve 904 868-6432 ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim Barrett" <[email protected]> To: "POWELL-DNA-L" <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, December 01, 2008 8:28 PM Subject: [POWELL-DNA] Kit Removal Today I was asked to remove all data for a kit from our website. I will be happy to honor the request but I must have the request and the kit number sent to me at [email protected] . I need both the request and the kit number in one e-mail. Please remember we have two websites http://www.flash.net/~parino/powell-surname-dna-project.htm which I maintain and http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Powell/ which is maintained by FTDNA. I'll honor any request to remove data from the first site. Anyone wanting their data removed from the second website will need to go to their "myFTDNA" and remove themselves from the project. This is done by clicking on the red "x" beside the project name. Please understand I'm not wanting to lose anyone but I think you need to know what to do if you should decide to drop out of the project. 3. I agree with Barbara I hope the person who wants to be removed from the project will reconsider. We are like a family we agree and disagree but we need to stick together. Nancy Today I was asked to remove all data for a kit from our website.

To gain full benefit from DNA testing, it is optimal to be able to participate in a surname project that provides information and results from as many "Powells" or other surnames as we can gather. That is the only way that you can keep updated on new people who match you on a regular basis without having to do a considerable amount of digging on your own. Jim's willingness to also post results from Powells who have tested with other labs, not just our own FTDNA, makes this website especially useful. I know the time and effort that go into maintaining a website, and greatly appreciate Jim for his efforts. Rather than lamenting on what is not, be eternally grateful for what is. Cheers, Barbara ************** Life should be easier. So should your homepage. Try the NEW AOL.com. (http://www.aol.com/?optin=new-dp&icid=aolcom40vanity& ncid=emlcntaolcom00000002)

You can't be EVERYTHING to EVERYONE so the best policy, at least as I see it, is the open and honest one. Yes, things change over time and things get moved around. As for me, it's obvious that I'm of the Powell decent but my actual father, (whomever he was), might have had a different surname. The initial test I took against someone who was my mirror twin revealed that we were very distant cousins and not brothers as we had suspected. The other coincidence were simply that, cooincidence. But you would have never guessed it by the picture of us side by side. Our closest male ancestor was between 600-800 years ago, probably in England somewhere. So all of this as you said is subjective. At some point or other you may step on someone's toes doing this, but for what it's worth, keep dancing. The best I've been able to figure, DNA reaserch has opened a big can of worms into many folks family lines....as they know them, and have been taught. Then they find that it doesn't match others that they think it should. I find myself matching a known cousin on the Powell page, yet in the YDNA research, I exactly match a Howard, Hopper, and Hooper at 1-67 markers. There were accidents, diseases, wars, Native American marriages (among others), that changed surnames of children. I'm still trying to figure out how my surname became Powell, yet I match only one other on the Powell DNA page at 1-37 exactly (the known cousin). The best thing you can do is do your own research, starting with what you already know, and go from there. Sometimes, you'll have to go forward to find the facts you need to go backwards. You can't expect or depend on the YDNA research to solve all the questions you'll have. That reseach exposes family secrets and opens more puzzles, but it will point you in the right direction. Hope I haven't overstepped the politeness boundaries here. Take care and God bless. Sue **************Life should be easier. So should your homepage. Try the NEW AOL.com. 2. Jim, I have found this hard to believe from the onset and of course, I talked to FTDNA and what they told me didn't add up because they said it had to have happened within the last 100 years. My mother is 101 and I know who her parents are without DNA. The person we matched was born in the 1800's. That was after our Abraham Powell. The Hooper didn't match any other Hooper. We know that Sue's gr. grandfather and my gr. grandfather were brother's and children of Abraham because we are exact matches. Now, the Hooper family who we match don't go any further back than this Hooper. He thought he was a Hooper but he was given away when he was a small boy and knew a Hooper that he thought might be his father. He could have been anyone.. After all who are any of us. There was a time when there were no surnames. You can match anyone. Frances In a message dated 11/30/2008 6:18:22 P.M. We do match quite a few Powell's on the list with a marker or two off. The Hooper that matches us is from a small group of Hooper's that do not match other Hooper's. 3. Same here. We've located cousins 7 and 8 generations removed and have verified by records that common ancestor, thanks to the DNA leads given us on this site with 1-67 matches. So far it seems each one descended from a different son of that first Thomas Powell from Wales who came to Long Island about 1652 when he was 11 (this is from recall). Can you imagine the decades and decades of work it would have taken to track down these cousins if it weren't for the work you had done on this site? And four of the cousins have met and enjoyed time together and with their families. Thank you for all your dedication in keeping this site updated and so sophisticated and educational. 2. Hugs and Hi Hannah.....
