    3. Hi Ken... I think she has them mixed up a little ... The Demsey in the deed is the son of George Powell (tax records of 1769) ... and I think Dempsey Powell is a different person from Wake County... I have to look at my rec's more to get all this straight ... I've been working on a Cader Powell in North Carolina Index to try to straighten them all out ... It looks like for awhile there EVERYBODY named a son Cader or Keder ... It's almost worse than "John" ... 3. This deed seems important, but...the deed mentions "Cader Powell, Junr." Now I don't know how they counted things like Junior in 1769, but there being a junior suggests to me that there was a senior. Wouldn't that make the deed's Cader Dempsey's brother? 3. Kit 146435 has been added with markers 1 - 67 and HVR1&HVR2. Here is part of the message I received along with the request to add this kit. "I seem to have some connection to surname Powell. (Unknown where) If anyone might have a "clue" about where it sure would be appreciated. My Charles Franklin Cochee b.abt. 1864 in PA might have been adopted, might have had some relatives who died in the Johnstown, PA flood of 1889?" This kit is a 66/67 match with kit 8640 in the gold group. Kit 54319 has been added with HVR1&HVR2. Here is part of the message I received with the request to add this kit. "I traced a (rare, in my case) HVR1+HVR2 match from a west coast source straight back to ALICE POWELL, b. about 1622, VA. I traced my own maternal line via paper trail back to Charity (unknown last name), b. 1760, to Anson, NC. Those associated English settlers came down from Virginia. Anyway, that match indicates Alice Powell's mtDNA. I don't know much about Alice Powell's father, except what I see at ancestry.com, etc. Most entries are for a William Powell, Captain and even Lt. Governor, at Jamestown. He died young, fighting Chickahominie Indians. He had a previous wife apparently with several children. But only had Alice, and possibly George, with wife Margaret Zouche. I'm in the minority in selecting Margaret Zouche as his second wife. But the Zouche coat of arms was inscribed or chisled in the same church where Margaret was christened (church bombed by Germans). Coats of arms of several or many other families were also so inscribed; some even with them sowing in stained glass windows. But I saw all that in passing, and don't recall the website. A Lord Zouche was involved with the Virginia Company. Now whether I am related or not remains to be seen. But the HVR1+HVR2 match is there, if I traced it right. It went from Oregon to Iowa to Indiana to Kentucky to Virginia (Mary Walker). Then to Elizabeth Warren, daughter of Alice Powell." Remember that HVR results are mtDNA and are found using the mtDNA link following the second table on the main page. 2. Yes, I do want to purchase this product. In a message dated 2/24/2010 9:28:28 A.M. Eastern Standard Time, [email protected] writes: Eugene, Y-DNA is from the Y-Chromosome - paternal line only. mtDNA is mitochondrial DNA - maternal line only. Family Finder uses Chromosomes 1 - 22 - all ancestral lines. It has the potential of matching you with someone from your father's mother's father or you mother's father's mother or any other combination. This is a new product so their database is small but it will grow. Go to your "myFTDNA" website. There should be a link with information about this product. 3. 1) - The person has been selected to be used in the pre-launch Family Finder.  That person was copied when I sent the notice to FTDNA.    2) - To learn more about Family Finder (FF) go to your "myFTDNA" website.  There is a LARGE banner you can click on to get additional information. There is a place on the new page to send FTDNA your e-mail address so you'll be notified when they go live. Also try this link: http://www.familytreedna.com/faq/answers/17.aspx   3)  Somewhere, and I don't remember where they said when you get a chance to order FF for an existing kit they'll check to see if they have enough DNA to run the test.  If they do they'll use it.  If not they'll send a new kit.  If you have paid for FF and they find they don't have enough DNA and if the person who provided the original sample is no longer alive I am sure they'll refund your money.  You can always elect to pay by invoice.  They don't send a request to the lab until they have the sample and the payment.  You really don't owe them anything until the request is sent to the lab.   4)  Everyone will be able to order FF when they go live, maybe mid-March.   I hope this answers most questions.  If you still have one please let me know. Who that person will be is up to you. If you would like to be the one person from your project to be able to order the kit let me know. My requirements: You must be willing to pay the $249 and I ask that you have most, if not all, of your lines traced back four or five generations as this test will be matching on all of your lines. You MUST be the contact for the kit. I have no idea what will happen to the price for this kit over the next year or two. I would expect this to be a good price if you are interested. This has to be a first come first serve basis. If you are interested send me the kit number, the name of the person who was tested and the contact e-mail address for the kit. My only part in this will be to send you information to FTDNA. As with any order the payment goes to them. They will contact you. If they have an extra sample for you I understand they will use it. If not they send you another kit. I will let the project members know when I have sent FTDNA a kit number, but I won't send that message until tomorrow. 3. Eugene,   Y-DNA is from the Y-Chromosome - paternal line only.  mtDNA is mitochondrial DNA - maternal line only. Please verify that you do want to purchase this product Jim Barrett - Timpson, TX Please Help Benjaman Kyle http://home.flash.net/~parino/bkyle.htm Barrett Surname DNA Project http://www.flash.net/~parino/barrett-family-dna-project.htm Powell Surname DNA Project http://www.flash.net/~parino/powell-surname-dna-project.htm --- On Tue, 2/23/10, [email protected] <[email protected]> wrote: From: [email protected] <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [POWELL-DNA] FTDNA Family Finder - Very Special - Limited Offer To: [email protected] Date: Tuesday, February 23, 2010, 10:14 PM Jim, I would like to do it from the Powell line, kit #132854, Powell Branch VA-17, Eugene D.
