Larry, I think the biggest drawback is for those people who want to easily share family tree info. I don't know how compatible Reunion is with other software, but overall Mac users are only about 10% of the market. I suppose info could be shared by Gedcom, but not everyone uses those.... Hello all.  Have recently returned from a brief trip to Cedar County, Missouri where I made copies of land and probate records of Green L. Powell and his father, Green D. Powell.  The heirs of Green D. Powell (1806-1860) were listed in 1866 as:  Jane, Sarah Maracle (widow), George, Green L., Elizabeth, Rebecca Caplinger, and James H. (James is stated as being in CA).  In further proceedings in 1869 the heirs are:  Jane Workman, Sarah Underhill, George W., Green L., Elizabeth Workman, Rebecca Rector (?) granddaughter, and James H. I use FTM 16.  I received a new version, free, about two years ago, looked at the DVD that came with it which was enougn to keep me to installing the new version.  I like the direct line ancestor charts for our website.  I had already the newer versions won't create them.   I have also heard that the newest version won't work if you don't have an internet connection to Ancestry.com. I have used Family Tree Maker (FTM) for 15 years, updating with almost every version. They now have a version for Mac, but it's more expensive than the PC version.The only thing I don't like about the latest editions of FTM (since FTM Version 16) is that you can no longer create an Outline Descendant Chart that lists the line of descent from an ancestor to a specific descendant.

Larry, I have used Reunion for the MAC for years. Works well but Ancestry is more seamless with Family Tree. Mary Powell Ward

Markers 26 - 67 have been added to kit 241643. Markers 26 - 37 have been added to kit 230965.   Please note that kit 241643 has a value for DYS607.  This makes the checking for matches very hard.  FTDNA report no matches at 37 markers, but if you look at http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Powell/default.aspx?section=ycolorized    you'll see he has several exact matches except for DYS607.  When FTDNA calculates the genetic distance they report his best match, in a report you can't see, as a genetic distance of 15, because 15 (the value others near him have) - 0 is 15.  We (project admins) have been told FTDNA was going to change this, but it hasn't happened yet.  Also, based on our website before this update kit 210036 was also showing a null for DYS607 but when I checked for matches I found his value to be 15.  I don't know what happened, when it happened or why it happened.  Searching the archives for this list I announced the null for 210036 on 11/21/11.  Jim Barrett - Timpson, TX Powell Surname DNA Project http://jpbdna.com/powell-surname-dna-project.htm

I use PAF (Personal Ancestral File) and FTM (Family Tree Maker) some, but my main program is TMG (The Master Genealogist) Gold Addition. I like its layout better and it has so many things you can do many of which I haven't even tried. Reunion is designed for Mac so it takes full advantage of the Mac interface. The latest version of Reunion appears to have everything FTM has. I love having access to qa sync'd file on my phone. I got the latest version of Family Tree Maker from ancestry.com early this year. It still has bugs in it. After issues with the software I had to reload my family tree to ancestry.com and it had lost loads of photos, and all the "hints" that I had researched. However, it is nice to have a copy of the family tree on my computer and on the ancestry.com website. It is also convenient to "sync" the files with each other with just the click of a button. Hello Everyone, here is the reason we cannot have Sarah Wilkes as Lewis Riddle Powells first wife, it was a Lewis Powell that was a Rev. War Soldier, and Lewis was born a lot later than this Lewis, at least 20 years. I am going to send this to the DNA site and see if any one from this line has taken the yDNA test. Then we can find out for sure if this line with Lewis belongs to us or not or maybe we won't find out, if the test has not been taken by this line. Hello fellow Elaine! I would appreciate it very much if you could look in the Powell book for Nicholas Powell from Ireland, who I believe lived in the Preston County VA area in the 1850s (now WV). The only reference I have to his given name and birth country is in the Marion County WV marriage record of his daughter Mary B, where the form asked for the bride's and groom's parents' names and where they were from. I have not been able to find more info, mostly because the Preston County records were destroyed in a fire in the 1860s. I have tried looking for a Nicholas Powell from Ireland coming to America in the first half of the 1800s, but the info on the few I found could not be connected to any of my known facts. Western PA is known for having a group of immigrants known (incorrectly) as the Scotch-Irish. I attended a session by two experts on Great Brittain's records, but other than learning the general area in Ireland where the "Scotch-Irish" lived in Ireland, I did not get a strategy for how to find our Nicholas. Nicholas apparently died before 1860, because in that census his wife Sarah (née Hoy from Greene Co.PA) had remarried and she and her 2 young Powell children (William J and Mary B) are living in the Samuel Stull household. Son William married Florence, and among their children was my grandfather, Grover Cleveland Powell, who subsequently had sons Michael and my father, Grover Cleveland Powell Jr. As an aside, from this generation forward, my Powells seemed to have ties to both Fairmont, (Marion County WV) and Waynesburg, (Greene County PA). There is a Nicholas Powell and wife Sarah in a different area of VA/WV in the 1850 census, but they have 3 children (including "Uz") that do not seem to show up again my part of this Powell family line. The one clue I may be able to use to narrow down my Nicholas Powell is that at two different times, the family name "Mochler" shows up. Nicolas' daughter Mary B marries Edward Mochler, a stonecutter from Ireland; in the next generation, in census records a Sarah Mochler lives with Grover C Powell Sr and wife Florence. My book has Gist and McNeil and related families. Genealogy,DNA studies and history. I follow R1b and I1 haplogroups generally speaking to there origin . I have kings and queens of England,Scotland and France connecting to American pioneers and charts going back to Biblical time. This is not an American Powell book but Powell's migrate with and marry into many of these families and there are Powell's found married to Gist and McNeil families. I didn't know about Nicholas when writing this book as Powell is my fathers brothers(McNeil) wife's maiden name.
