I keep repeating "tested to the same level at the same time" because a person can have a backbone test which tests only to the larger branches of the Haplotree.  Even when two people have ordered Deep Clade tests the results need to be from the same time frame as new SNPs are being added all of the time. 2. Well said, Jim. I found myself recently trying to explain this concept to a potential DNA donor on the phone. I wish I had your eloquence of diction and "big picture" point of view. I am going to print your examples out and use them in my explanation, next time. Thanks for making this clear. John Powell In a message dated 9/6/2012 11:58:24 A.M. Mountain Daylight Time, parino@flash.net writes: If two men are from a different major Haplogroups (for example one is a R--- and one is a T---) they CAN NOT and/or DO NOT (both apply) share a common paternal ancestor. Just because two men share a common backbone Haplogroug (R1b1a2 for an example) this does not imply that they DO share a common paternal ancestor. You must compare their STR results (the more markers the better) to determine if there was a possible common paternal ancestor. To me saying they CAN not and saying they can NOT means the same thing, but I'm far from being a English expert. In both cases I mean they DO NOT. 3. Oh yeah, go ahead, rub it in. Actually I don't know what happens to the system with Outlook. We went to that system back in January and it's been a challenge to say the least. I went to my "E"mail locker in Yahoo and it opened just fine. So I don't know................ But I got it and printed it. INTERESTING!! Gonna go home and read it. Been outside all day and it's a SWEATBOX around here. -----Original Message----- From: powell-dna-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:powell-dna-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Jim Barrett Sent: Tuesday, September 04, 2012 4:15 PM To: powell-dna@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [POWELL-DNA] VFW Magazine September 2012 David,   You need to get a new computer.  The link worked fine for me and I'm out in the sticks! 3. Thank you Charlie for informing me about this, it does help me to understand. Are you in the Haplogroup R1b1a2???? I have a Powell Chart that was copied by David Leon Powell from a Powell Family File from the Madoc Castle in Breconshire, Wales. I can send it to each and every person on the Powell site, but do not have it as a link, just a page and a attachment in a PDF File. If any one would like to have a copy of this chart, contact me off line at: springerpc@msn.com<mailto:springerpc@msn.com>. It is apart of the R1b1a2's family history.
