I believe that after many years of searching and a whole lot of help from the people on this forum, I have ascertained a list of the children of Lewis Powell (1779-) & Patience Watson (1782-). Some of these children are certain and others are my best guess with the information I have. I am hoping that all the Alabama POWELL researchers can help me out here. If anyone has information on any of these families that may PROVE OR DISPROVE anything I have posted here, PLEASE reply. CAUTION: This list of children IS NOT contained in any records other than my own research and in the records of other researchers with whom I have shared my research notes. This list is certainly TENTATIVE at best except for William G. W. Powell & Edney Powell-Thrasher. I have reasons to believe that the others are his children but they are only assumed from certain evidence and they are not named anywhere as his children except by the clues in my research. I am saying this only because I don’t want anyone to ASSUME this this is a confirmed and irrefutable list of his children. We could find that any one of them belongs to someone else. OLIVER POWELL (c.1804GA-): Oliver lives near Patience Powell in Autauga County, Alabama and I have wondered if he might be a part of this family but I have not found any information on him or his parents. He might belong to this list but I just cannot find out anything about him. SPECIAL THANKS to JOHN POWELL of Colorado & Macon Georgia for the help he has provided. John at one time sent me a copy of the pension application for Lewis Powell and that document broke down a huge wall. It identifies Patience Powell of Autauga County as Lewis’ estranged wife. Then again he provided me with a record of a newspaper article "REWARD" for the apprehension of John Culp who murdered George Powell in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana. Once again a landmark discovery for me in identifying these children. BARRY WYATT identified the CULP children using the name "POWELL" in the 1850 Census for Patience Powell. This only goes to show that the HELP FROM EACH OTHER in these research is our most valuable resource for this wonderful search for our ancestors. There are many more of you out there but this posting just isn’t big enough for me to thank you all for your help. Namesake: her mother Patience Watson-Powell (1782-) Note: unknown whether this person actually exists but there is evidence that a child Patience probably exists. Note: Because of Lewis & Patience’s predictability in the family naming patterns, each child being evidently named after a Watson sister, brother, family member, it is probably that the unknown female born between 1810- 1815 is Patience Powell named after her mother Patience Watson-Powell. There is no certain evidence of this except for that probability and identifying Patience Powell age 37 in the 1850 Census of ALDeKalb. Several other children of Lewis & Patience (Lewis & Michael) name a child Patience and their children also have named children Patience. (06). MICHAEL W.
